Congratulations to your daughter. Bratcat...
My 10 year old son joined the DARE program this year at his elementary shool. He has come home pretty inspired by it, on more than one occasion. I am hoping this information he is getting at a young age will help him say NO if and when the peer pressure temptation's arise...
BRAVO Bratcat's daughter!!!!! Tell it like it is! You could be onto a future career!!!! I do not know you but I am very proud of you! Keep up the great work!
Well... I went through the DARE problem. It opened my eyes to a world of chemicals and substances that would make me happy- but I shouldn't take them. The DARE program has one little problem. It goes and teaches middle class suburban kids about Drugs, when they never knew they existed. Then the police officer tells you how good they make you feel, but after a while they'll make you feel bad. When we take aspirin for headaches we feel good for a while and then feel bad when the headache returns. It's the same thing to the kids.
So, the cops come in, teach the kids about drugs and then arrest them when they try what they've taught.
Most of the DARE program teaches kids to say no, but it depects the drug users as people hiding out in alleyways who are dead set on giving their stash away. They never tell you what to do when your best friend of X number of years offers you something- only that people who offer you drugs aren't your friends.
In all fairness, I don't do drugs, but not for any reason I learned in DARE. I've seen many of the people who wore the black shirts and stood next to me on DARE Graduation day with red eyes and preach the wonders of Cigarettes, alcahol, pot, etc. (All taught in the program)
Please don't take this as trolling or anything like that, I'm sure your daughter will make you proud... it's just that the program doesn't work for everybody, and it can work horribly for many. Sometimes ignorance is bliss.
All of my kids took it.. and did the graduation thing. So far *keeping fingers crossed* None of them have touched drugs.
My younger brother also took DARE in school... he was a drug addicted alcoholic who died (3 times... the last time being final) by the hands of a drug addicted alcoholic friend.. *shrugs* who knows if the program helps or hurts..
Drugs are out there.. kids no matter what income bracket they live in... are exposed to them.. if DARE helps just one.. I think it's worth it.
BratCat.. I'm glad your daughter is involved and I hope she gets nothing but good out of it..
Yay for that little girl! And for a mommy that so obviously loves her so very well. I have two of my own and i will do whatever i can to assure that they are never harmed and that drugs and alcohol do not become a part of there lives. Very very nice post Bratcat,
Congratulations to you for doing such a wonderful job since you have had her and hats off to the young lady for standing up and speaking out.
You should be very proud.
I agree Brat Cat You should be very Proud of your Daughter....
I too have had simalar Drug and Alcohaul Experiences as a child and that is the main reason why I don't do them today and I also stay away from Alcohaul as much as possible.... Just Ask Xander and Ravenloft....
But I also agree with sd412, Why because if the Kids havn't learned about them yet and then get told about the drugs and what they do,,, I'm sorry but most Kids and Esp. Teens think that they are invincable and that it wont hurt them to try it... and from my Exp. that is when they get addicted,, the first try....
so Brat cat, I would have to say that your daughter is a lucky girl. as a child she learned what it was like to live with drugs and doesn't want it in her life.. it is sad, yes but it has made her a better person from the Exp.. and that is what you are so proud of and we are as well
Give her a Hug and a thank you from us here at the NS Frat House..
