Ok I've decided to take the plunge and give up smoking...I have my Zyban script being proccessed now. My doctor has advised me that in the meantime I should start to cut back on the cigarettes...but gee its harder than it sounds.

Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I would try to suggest something but I've never attempted to quit. Ask Quoter, even though he is slowly regressing back into being a smoker now.

Good luck.

Buy gum..and lots of it. I popped a piece of gum instead of a cig when I quit a couple of years ago.
Also, every time I wanted to light up, I got up and walked around for a bit. That seemed to help me, too.
Find something to replace the cig in hand with. A pen will do. Just hold onto it to give your hands something to hold.
Good Luck!!!

Lots and lots of wild sex...

then when the urge to smoke hits you, MORE.

Never smoked so no advice... only best wishes of luck with it.

Gotta admitt, i quite like the idea of Koalabear's :p

Gum sounds good, I'll do that! At the moment I've been sucking on Lollipops.....its hard to satisfy the craving, but harder to keep the hands and mouth busy.
I like the idea of going for the walk when the cravings hit too.

Thanks. :rose:

I can't help you..I never wanted to give up on smoking..sorry

I've never tried to quite myself. I'm waiting for Bones to give me the one over with the medical tricorder (weird electronic whirring noise) and proclaim me cured!

Honestly, I think the best advice I could give you would be to tell no one. You'll only be pestered by questions: "How's it going?" "How's the cravings?" etc.

Zyban

Will also hurt your sleep and tend to make your hyper. Alot of people cannot take it.

*leaves thread muttering something about not being able to find a good man when she needs one*

I'm prepared for that, I tried to take Zyban once before but had to stop as I was trying to function on about 2 hours sleep a night...the doctor has given me some sleeping tablets to see me through.

If you fail you send me a pack of Tim-Tam ?

Mmmm, they look yummy - what are they?

The bets on though...but can't start it for two weeks as I have to take the Zyban for ten days before I actually stop smoking...can't say I'm not honest though! :D

Mapple syrup flavored biscuits . Two layers of biscuits in shape of mapple leaves with mapple cream between.

Oh my, that sounds like heaven! I'm one of the few people I know that actually like maple syrup...I can't wait! :)

You not the only one. I am tradding mapple syrup cans against Belgium Chocolate.
We have a deal then. 3 months after you quit smocking you will tell who the winner is.
Ps I want to lose

I want to congratulate you for taking the steps. You are worth it. I smoked for quite a few years and I quit 2 years ago. I feel so much better now. My immune system is stronger.

The only advice I have is;
take it day by day.
And, if you have a setback, don't give up.
Start the next day, again.

Good luck! :)

We have a deal! An Australian never welches on his/her bets BTW....so I fully expect a packet of Maple Syrup flavoured biscuits in my mailbox in three months time! You'll have to content yourself with the dream of creamy Tim Tams.....because this is one bet I intend to win!

Thanks Raindancer...and you know what I am worth it!! I never actually thought about it in that context but its a good point.

Your setback solution is good too.....I tried to stop smoking once before and when I had a setback I just thought 'its too hard I can't do this' so I started smoking again...if it happens again I won't give in as easy this time.

Not problem after the first mapple biscuit, you will come back for more...

You can do it!

Different tjings work for different people. I quit with the patch. I know some people who just quit cold turkey - something I don't think I could do. Just keep reminding yourself of all the reasons you want to stop.

As the one of my all-time favorite ballplayers once said, it's 99% mental, and the other half is physical.

Good luck.

I tried the patch once before but it didn't seem to do anything at all.

Your right about the 99% mental thing, its like when you know you can't something you start to crave it. I am trying to cut down now....but all I can do is think about when I can have my next cigarette...I'm craving one earlier than I'd normally think about having a smoke just because I know I shouldn't have it! Weird huh?
