Recently bought "The Best American Erotica 2004." Can't say that I found the stories very enticing. What I did find interesting was Editor Susie Bright's comments on how there are certain phases of erotica subject matter. For the 2004 submissions, she noted a lot of anal erotica and she was musing as to the cause. She had noted trends before, eg vampires/blood at the early peak in the AIDS epidemic. She'd noted an anal erotica trend before but wasn't coming up with source until she was watching early morning news and Rumsfield's face was on TV. Then it hit her, the last time she saw an anal erotica trend in submissions was during the first Gulf War.
So, an interesting Editor's foreword but there's just as good or better erotica on here.
Now, for something that was both wonderful and erotic, Circlet Press has an SF/Fantasy Best of collection for something like 1992 to 2002. If anyone's interest in the title, they can IM me and I'll find where I hid it.
