Although I've read stories here over the years I've never submitted one before last week:

http://www.literotica.com/stories/showstory.php?id=473881

So I have a few general questions. What is the 'normal' hit rate for new work? I am guessing that you can't vote unless you've signed up and logged in, so the votes are from members - probably other writers for the most part? I am assuming that the vast (overwhelming) majority of readers are not members - so a vote to hit ratio of 2 or 3/1,000 views is typical perhaps?

I am also guessing that the aims of the majority of readers are likely somewhat different than those of the 'likely voters' ;)

There is no normal hit rate. Too many variables.

You don't have to be either a registered member or signed in to vote/comment.

There's probably no ratio to be drawn between readers and readers/voters. Again, too many variables.

Exactly what SR stated. The day, the category, the length of your piece all come into play. Just kick back and enjoy your new-found prestige, status and glory as a newly published Lit author.

LOL, ok - I suppose the fact that I never noticed the vote icons and comment box before might imply something. Thanks for the info.
