Cup Size in Story?

Deliberately posted a story with no mention of the cup sizes/bra size. Described the breasts in detail size/shape etcetera but left it up to the imagination.

First feedback today was

"It would have been nice if you'd put in the story the girl's cup size"

I HATE stories that start...She was a stunning blonde, 48DD

Cos they always are 48DD aren't they?

What's other people's opinions?

I refuse to put in a cup size. Or even a number, for that matter. I'll use other words such as full, round, perky, or gently sloping to get my point across. I've never been called on it, and if I was, I would probably delete the feedback.

What's a porn writer to do? (Critics. Can't live with them; can't live without them?) LOL!

I've tried it both ways. There appears to be far more criticism from fellow writers and authors when cup sizes are used overtly, although I've never had a complaint from a general reader.

But I suppose I now tend to lean toward your and SexyChele's approach in being descriptive versus numerical. There is something to be said (or unsaid, right?) for allowing one's mind a little freedom to expand or contract the visual imagery, so one size doesn't fit all. ;)

That's what I found strange. I've realised that penis size and cup size in stories is bad writing(In my eyes anyway) and made a conscious decision not to go that root and then ..Bam! first feedback ! Not that I have much idea about cup sizes anyway to be honest...aren't UK and US sizes different like shoes?

Perky!

"Perky" is the word used for someone with boobs like mine. Can't find anything else good to say about them.

Pinky and Perky were the names of two little piggy characters in a childrens TV program over here in the UK. They were quite cute while they stayed quiet.

(just in case you were looking to name both of them)

I think that mentioning cup size in a story is a sure sign of the writer being a jerk-off-story-writer, and that the readers haven't got enough sense of imagination to make up an image of the woman in their mind.

A brain is a terrible thing to waste.:(

The only reason I'd put cup size into a story is if it added something to the character beyond strictly informational or physcial despcription.

"She had a 34B chest." That adds about as much as "Her middle to was a little longer than her big toe." No one cares except a long middle toe fetishist.

Now, I would use cup size like this:

"I jiggled my chest under his nose and watched him jerk. He wasn't quite there yet. I passed off a pithy remark and shoved my double d's almost into his chin. I could feel the heat of his breath on the skin hidden beneath my bra. I knew I had him hooked when I took a step back and he followed my cleavage."

I don't really care what anyone might request. I give no measurements without a strict purpose. The number of people who are tired of "Just so you know, I'm blonde, blue eyed, 36-20-34 with perky C cups and an ass that won't quit." far outstrip the few who can't get along without a blueprint.

But that's just me. You write what makes your story work.

AbCcrap

Cup size means very little if you don't get the entire landscape. A B or a DD will look very different on short, tall, fit, unfit, obese, male, female, etc. E.g., a 58C is generally not enticing. Then there's the perkiness scale, etc.

I do like to give the precise angles and surface areas of noses. Knees are fun to describe (knobby, irregular, arthritic, wrinkly, smashed, artificial).

I can't figure out how to measure ass holes, what with all the crinkles and whether the owner is relaxed or uptight.

Dear Perdita,
I really don't know why anyone would wish to, but I would suggest you do it very carefully and with the owner's permission. A lot of misunderstandings and bad feelings could arise from a situation like that.

Ps. Descriptions like "pudding thighs" are often useful.

MG: I don't really care what size an asshole is, closed or open; I was just correlating to the cup size issue. But it got me thinking, e.g., is there a protractor that would work on the crinkly circumference. Or, one could do the pencil/string thing w/the string tied around a finger centered right in the hole.

OMIGOD, I've read too much Durtgirl in one session.

Nevermind.

In my opinion, listing the cup size is lazy writing, and really the letters and numbers don't say much. Not only do sizes look different on different heights and shapes of women, but although the sizes are supposed to be standard, they aren't. If you buy some of the designer bras you need to buy a cup size larger than if you buy a non-designer bra. It's pretty random.

Anyway, you shouldn't have to put anything in your story that you'd hate to read.

I agree with DarlingNikki that it is lazy writing and as the dimensions quoted are usually excessive I actually find such information counter-productive.

I have quoted cup size but it was only in my spoof, viz

'Her impossibly large 32A breasts seemed to defy gravity'.

You're making fun of me, aren't you?

The heroines of my Silverbridge stories, The Silver Vixens Football Team, have "Thunder Thighs" from too much training. Apart from strength for playing football they squeeze men between them. Pudding thighs they are not because they are all muscle but mini-skirts are not worn by the Vixens.

Og.

PS There was a Russian woman in a James Bond film who killed men by squeezing them between her thighs. I don't think she merited "pudding thighs" either.

There is a point only KillerM has mentioned. Cup size might help characterization, show a character's view of self or others.

Hence the objections are pretty much to THIRD person narration, where it seems like the narrator assumed to be the author is being lazy.

In a first person narration, if I am a jerky frat boy college type would like the cheerleaders' DDs then it's entirely appropriate to say, "I saw Crystal approaching with her 36DDs proudly presented." If I'm a sleazy porn movie director, I say "I used Holly in this scene cuz she's got the best DDs in the business, full and round and areolas almost 3 ins in diameter."

But if you are writing from the pov of some frat boy and he's quoting exact sizes, you have to make sure it's logical for him to know her exact size. Unless she goes around broadcasting her bra size or he's had a peek into her gym bag or something, it doesn't sound right.

D-Nikki: Just an aside but still relating to this thread--

Your AV is cropped perfectly; that (do not tell me if it's yours or not) is the most alluring nipple I've seen lately (at least on the pages of Lit.) I would hate to see its mound described in bra size. It is a perfectly perfect breast for its body and the equally alluring mane of hair atop.

FYI, I'm straight but a bi- fantasizer at times. Regards, Perdita

hiya

what difference does it make???? the average lit male reader wouldn't be able to get his one working brain cell round to sorting out the difference between c & d cup anyway.
just a neanderthal sounding "nice tits darlinn" is about all they could manage as they furiously pound their dick reading about some guy's 12 inch dick giving some poor bitch an anal fucking.
it's all fiction darlings, including the 12 inch thingie.

oh and they're a pair of 38's d cup of course if anyone's interested.

luv lorri xxxxxxxxxx:D

I like to give enough information so that the reader can create their own appearance of a character. If it matters, I might be specific. However, I can't think of too many scenarios where knowing a cup size would make any positive difference in a story. If the reader likes large or small breasts, he/she can use their own imagination with the limited information I may give them.
