What is the right way to spell this? Is it that same spelling for the orgasm definition as the sperm definition?
Not exactly in my dictionary (actually it is, but only the "come" way)

You'll get many different answers to this...I like to spell it cum myself (just sits right with me) but that is only my preference :)

Can't stand 'cum' as a word myself. It sounds illiterate. It really detracts from the mood.

So I use 'come' and rarely at that. So many other words that can be used.

In the real-world market, writing for men's mags and whatnot, there's a style sheet which covers this issue. There's little consensus. I'm with Rob, mostly, right at the moment. I used to make a distinction that the substance was cum, the verb to come. But I stick pretty much to come, these days, along the lines that Rob mentions.

Some markets want cum for the verb and come for the substance, which is just backwards-ass. This market, Lit, does not care.

When I do use the term I use 'cum' as the noun or verb and 'cumming' as the verb. 'Come' seems too formal for what the situation is trying to convey. When I'm thinking of the scenario I want it to be a sex scene, not a black-tie affair.

I'm a "come" girl myself.

Almost wrote "come" SLUT there by accident.

;)

As long as I get to DO it, I don't care how you SPELL it. :D

(However, when I WRITE it, I use "come")

Blimey, I couldn't see that yellow until I bent forward to look down your dress. ;)

I usually use cum and cumming but this leaves me in a dilemma...

I have no clue what the past tense is!.....

If the past tense is "I came yesterday" then perhaps cum in inappropriate?.. It just doesn't sound right to say "I cummed yesterday"... so perhapse I should go back to "come". Sigh.. such a dillemma... (welllll.. another one besides my poor spelling without a spell checker!)

Well, when I started writing erotica, I used come. I always like it a lot and didn't care for cum as it seemed very adolescent to me. After I had submitted a couple of stories here, I switched to cum because "everyone was doing it." But I'm going back. I can't get used to it. I don't even want to! :)

You make it sound like a brand of coffee creamer. :D

Ona purely technical level, I use "cum" for the noun because it doesn't confuse grammar checking as badly as using a Verb as Noun -- a far as a grammar check is concerned, "Come" is a verb and never used as a noun.

If you don't use a grammar checker, it's a non-issue and depends on the contxt which is "proper."

If you do use a grmmar checker, using "cum" for the substance and "Come" for the verb, you'll reduce false errors caused by too many verbs in your sentence.

(Note, I've learned never to name a character "Frank" for the same reason -- it confused the grammar and spell check beause it can't pin down the part of speech it's supposed to be.

Yer right, that one is awkward. The very, very, very few times, which I think was once, that I had to write it in a past tense like that, I think I used a whole different way of saying it. Something like, "...He got his cookies yesterday..." or something to that affect.

Good girl. You stick to it.

There's a Welsh word cwm, pronounced coom. It means a valley between two spurs of a mountain.

Just thought I'd throw that into the mix.

I like to think of people cwming.

*sigh*

If I'm FUCKING, I CUM!

If I'm having sex, I come!

If I'm making love, I have a deeply moving psycho-sexual experience culminating in a profound, dare I say spiritual, release.

See how easy that was...

Sincerely,
ElSol
