There's another thread about grammar mistakes in erotica, and I wanted to submit this question for discussion:

How the hell do you spell our favorite term for orgasm? Is it "cum" or "come"? And then the product of that orgasm, is that "cum" or "come"?

Personally, I use "come" for the verb and "cum" for the noun. Example: "I'm gonna come, watch out for my cum."

Am I completely nuts?

That appears to be the convention. I don't think there's anything "official" about it though; it's not like you'll find cum in a dictionary. (Unless you use your dictionary as a masturbation aid.)

I don't know when use of cum started to become the standard. Seems to me that the porn of a previous generation used come as both verb and noun.

I have to agree. A really good erotic read is so much better when it reads easily. Being a "perfectionist" and a bit anal, about some things, "come" IS the action and "cum" IS the noun.

Thank you TB4 for bringing out the obvious that so many times we fail to see the forest for the trees.

I actually despise the word "cum", it seems so lewd. I prefer "come", "climax" and "orgasm". Then theres..."explode"..."losing my mind"....etc. :D But I digress. The way you (tb4p) are using it is absolutely correct.

Well, yeah, I don't like it either. "John cummed all over Stacy." Ick. I stop reading right there.

But I suppose if the people having sex are screaming in the heat of the moment, it would look a little silly if they shouted "I'm going to climax!" "Come" works in that situation.

I've seen the same subject discussed in Authors' Hungout.

LOL..now think about what you said...when screaming, the spelling is not noted.:D
And when I am screaming, it isn't about what I am going to do...its purely unintelligible.;)

We're on the same page.:)

cum or come?

well...if she gave me a "come hither" look, I might eventually cum.

But, think we are over reacting......I mean......really, don't you think its unbecoming to thrash out a cum?

I don't know why they don't call it, "arrived"! I prefer splooge, baby batter, white wash, or groin gravy!
**Oh cum, all ye facefull.........

Baby batter--now there's a term I've never cum across before while using webster's as a masturbatory aid.

If you want to go by the dictionary "Cum" isn't considered a word, but otherwise I think it is more personal prefrence.
