It’d been an eventful year for Miriam and Jarrod. They’d both gotten new jobs, that’d been advancements in their respective careers, they’d gotten a new great house, and, to top it all off, they’d won the lottery! It wasn’t one of the grand million-dollar pay outs, but it’d been substantial, half a year pay for either of them – and they were pretty comfortable to begin with.
Once settled both at their workplaces and in the house, they both agreed it was time to celebrate, and it could be lavish, too, given the extra funds they had to spend. So that’s how it was the married couple booked their lives first cruise. Two weeks on the blue seas with ports of call along the sunny strip of coasts and exotic islands along the way. It was goona be an adventure, and, of course, with cash in abundance, they got themselves an upper deck suite with a large balcony.
The idea of it alone was arousing to them. And the night of looking at options grew late, with wine. By the end of it, they were most interested in each other, so the selection had been made snappy, almost random, picking the offer among the current open browser tabs that seemed to have the nicest picture and the nicest rooms. Miriam and Jarrod didn’t have so much time for details and fine print then and there.
The communication was snappy, though, the cruise liner made sure to keep them updated on the service, and the eagerness to get going grew from looking at beaches, meals, drinks and beautiful people on deck. The days flew by, and pretty soon they found themselves there; having boarded by a long suspension walkway, getting their key cards and instructions in the main deck reception. Jarrod looked around. It wasn’t crowded, boarding was done in groups, to make it a smooth experience for everyone. Small groups of people and individuals waited around, all seemingly in good spirit, ready to get on with relaxation and fun.
The girl behind the counter smiled as she scanned their reservation. It was a luxury ticket after all, these two weeks, they’d spared no expense. She looked at Jarrod. Did she wink at him? Really, or had he imagined it? Was that proper for a reception clerk, to do that? He smiled back, nodded, a bit shyly, then, as the girl turned to type into her terminal, he looked around again.
Jarrod was just about to say something to tow guys who were clearly checking Miriam’s behind out. She looked good in the summer dress, that was for sure, but for a second, Jarrod felt those gazes were a bit out of line, to sexual. But before he could decide if saying something was warranted, they got their cards, “Welcome aboard! I hope and think you will enjoy your stay!”, said the girl. And then they were off to the elevator moving up.
There was a woman in there with them, nodding politely as the doors shut behind them and they started to ascend. Her floor came before them. As she left, she turned before the doors shut again, looking at Miriam and Jarrod. “I’m in 1043,” she said, “I’d like some company, drop by for a chat about it if you want!” Then she blew a kiss and was gone.
Jarrod looked at his wife with his eyebrow high, “Drop by her for company?”, he smiled, “What did she mean?”, the elevator slowed down, arriving at their floor, “And did you see the looks on us down there? Wow, how popular are we, baby?”. The doors opened again, revealing the wide corridor, leading to their suite in the corner.
