These are seeing a bit of a renaissance due to classic gaming -console home gaming & "barcades" with old arcade machines.

Do you still have an old-school TV with a cathode ray tube (CRT)?

And, if so, how does it look nowadays?

this sounds like "vinyl vs. digital remaster" 2.0

and no, i gave up CRTs about 15years ago.

Got a large Sony that was leftover from two previous tenants ago who didn't wanna deal with moving it back down several flights of stairs, so it's just sitting in the living room as an ad hoc side table.

Still works, it was the main entertainment center for me and my previous roomie. She didn't wanna take it when she left, either. I just haven't been assed enough to hire a removal service to come take it or push my luck and slow scootch it down the stairs myself. Or maybe I'll advertise it on a recycle site and a hipster bar will want to come take it. I'll get around to it someday. Or if I ever move out, I'll just leave it here and let the cycle continue! :D

Videophiles seeking out the highest quality image stayed with CRTs until surprisingly recently, long after the introduction of LCD and LED screens. Sony made a few models that were outstanding, though I think that the biggest screen they could make was 36". They were monsters! People loved their "true" blacks, the warmth and depth of the image, their excellence from any viewing angle, and their durability.

I think it was the Panasonic plasmas that started changing people's minds, and now of course OLED.

I've read about those games on CRTs. Interesting!

Right? I didn't know until I tried to hook up an old Nintendo to one. :D

I only recently through out my last Sony Wega. Those were amazing. It finally died a good death after 20 or so years. Anything Trinitron were great for gaming consoles and to some extent Blu-Rays.

Plasma was nice too but OLED is pretty great.

OLED is the first tv that made me let go of my old Sony. It's pretty spectacular.
