Crossdressing "Teacher/Mentor"

Is there such a thing as this? I've been curious about crossdressing for a while, but haven't really found the best way to start. Has anyone had a teacher or mentor that helped you get started? I learn best by doing, so I thought this could be a good way for me to get started.

I wish I had a mentor... I have a trans friend who once offered to take me shopping for clothes and makeup once (too afraid to go by myself), though s/he no longer dresses as a female due to becoming religious recently, and as a result I never got to go with her.
