Right, slightly belated, but still here. This is the Critic's Choice award thread. If anyone wants to discuss the stories, then they can do it here.

Judges: English Lady, Alex de Kok, Chicklet, NorthwestRain, Octavian, Kiwiwolf

Rules: Each critic needs to read each of the stories and grade them from 1 to 10 (1 being bad, 10 being good). They must also select their top three stories and mark them 1 to 3 (1 being best, 3 being 3rd). The winner will be decided by the 1 to 10 ranking. Judges can discuss the stories and their voting with anyone, although I'm trusting you all not to vote better for a friend. Please PM your votes to me. All votes must be in by midnight English time March 7th.

On the subject of the little Blue C, I will be asking Laurel about it, but I can't promise anything. It's her site, ergo, she decides.

Anyone who is stupid enough to volunteer to chair the next round, I think the only qualification is to stick your hand up on this thread and have nobody complain at you. My preference would be English Lady as she seems a lot more certain about where this should go than me.

Go nuts.

The Earl

No, before anyone asks me NO. I do not want to be chair person!

Thanks for the vote of confidence Earl but I don't want the job. I am happy to read stories and judge and help out in anyway I can but I am not going near anything that might even look suspiciously like maths*L*

Thanks for taking on responsibility of this round Earl, I am sure we all much appreiciate it.

Ack! Wrong thread! LOL

Earl, you do it. Gowan, ya know you want to!

:)

If no one else wants to run the next round, I'll do it.

But first, some questions for you, Earl.

Can I send you my opinions as I read the stories, or do you want one long PM about each rating? I'd like to read one, rate it, tell you what I rated it, and then go back when I'm all done to do my 1, 2, 3.

Chicklet

...also...

since we're judging these people's work, I was wondering if in the next round all the judges could write a 500 or so word critique of each story. Send some feedback to the author, so to speak. Anonymously...we could send it to the moderator and the moderator could put it in no particular order and send it to each author.

Chicklet

A suggestion, Earl

Instead of rating the stories 1 best, 2 middle, 3 worst, I found it was a lot easier to give three points to the best story and only 1 to the third choice. That way you only have to add up the points, instead of anything more difficult. Just a suggestion ;)

I'd also like to second Chicklet's suggestions. I think the idea of a critique of each story would be a great addition to the contest.

Just my 2 cents

Can't we just give bullet point feedback and if people want more give it to them? basically a list of what we liked and what we didn't?

500 words doesn't seem much but when you're going to have to write 500 words on 10 stories....it mounts up.

You might find it harder to come by judges if you expect that amount of feedback to be given, we all do this in our spare time and some people might just not have the time to spare to do indepth analysis of each story.

This scoring thing has been a disaster, IMHO. What about reviews?

Nope, no way, not gonna happen... not from this Kiwi boy anyway.

This week I have to move house, start a new job, and lose my daughter. Sorry Chicklet but I don't have the time or the inclination to write a 500 word critique on each of 10 stories. I'll read them and score them but that is my limit.

I'll try. If you want to write critiques, I'll try my hardest, but obviously you're not obliged.

Chicklet: I'd have preferred one PM, but that's cause I'm lazy. Hit me with one at a time if you want.

Thanks DN. We'll carry on with the current scoring system so that we don't get any confusion. The hard work will be my punishment for not thinking it out better.

Critics' Award in the future.

At the moment we have a variety of genres submitted for the monthly award. As a judge this month I will do my utmost to rate each submission by the same criteria but it is difficult to be totally objective if one happens to find a theme distasteful.

Might it be a good idea if only stories in one particular genre were nominated in any given month. The judges for that month could be selected from the authors who regularly write in that genre.

The award would then be more meaningful in that it would be a judgement of one's peers.

Octavian

I think we had this discussion before way back when this idea started out.

I believe that having a cross section of writers judging stories of all sorts of genre is beneficial because truely good writing will shine through even if you have a personal dislike for the theme.

I also believe the judges are capable of making a decent judgement on any story. Ok a little personal like or dislkie is going to come into it, and why shouldn't it? We're judging erotica so wether it turned us on(or if we could imagine it turning someone else on) has to come into it.

I also think some story genre's wouldn't be able to get together the needed number of judges to make their round viable, and you should have the same(roughly) number of judhges each time or it isn't fair.

thats my point of view anyway*S*

URLs

Dear Earl,

Oh, dear. I couldn't get to the stories by NLite, JJohn, Christo, or myself using those URLS.

The URL for "Frieda the Cat" is

http://www.literotica.com:81/stories/showstory.php?id=70222

I'm too lazy to look up all of them, but the authors should know their stories need URLs.

From what I've read so far, this is going to be like comparing apples and camels. Good luck, judges.

The one by Nitelite 1, I couldn't even find when I searched!
What's going on here Earl.
You set us Up! You dirty...dirty...Bastard!!!!!
This story doesn't even exist, does it!
By the way, having a great time reading the entries. A nice cross section of styles and themes.

Poor, poor me

I'm so embarrassed about the italics run amok in my story. I didn't even do it! Oh, woe is me.

I've never been bothered with that stuff. I just have a separate mailbox for bulk mail and dump it every once in a while.

Am I just lucky or am I doing something right?

On Feedback

Okay, so maybe instead of a 200/500 word critique or whatever, we could do this:

2 things you liked about the story/style and *why*

2 things you would improve about the story/style and *why*

Chicklet

Apologies about the links. Hopefully Chicklet's ones all work. God bless her little cotton socks.

The Earl

I love Chicklets idea about commenting on what you think about the story. Especially since one of my stories is here. I LOVE to hear people talk about my works!!!:D

NorthwestRain, I know your pain. I'm very close to giving in and buying an enhancing thingie for the penis I don't have, along with some Viagra to wake it up.

I also need to go and get a morgage, so I can get a better deal on it through the internet later on...
