OK, so I think I would like to create a blog site where I could review other sites, review books, speak my mind on things that can't be discussed here, and do so in a safe way. Retaining my anonymity is an absolute requirement.

Also, I would want to be able to use ads/banners and not have a lot of noise from the hosting site's ads/banners. One or two of theirs would be OK but not if they get in my way.

I'm not sure if I want my own domain (e.g. angelasthoughts.com) or if I want to be part of some other site (e.g. angelasthoughts.someothersite.com).

Anybody have any recommendations as to IPs or sites that I should look into or those I should avoid?

Are you going to host it on your own domain, or go to a journalling host?

I'm sure you already know that you can buy domain privacy so that your ownership details will not be public.

After Livejournal deleted almost 500 journals and communities unexpectedly (and then apologised and restored almost every one of them) that has been a whole lot of dicussion on this matter.
Try this link to get you started;

and read the articles titled "Weaning yourself off lj"

(maybe-- the internet is acting funny for me today, and the page comes up blank)

According to this writer, Dreamhost supports free speech.

come to think of it, you could very easily be angelsthoughts.stellaomega.com while you got started-- I can set up a blog for you, and my host also supports free speech :)

Because you're an incurable romantic :kiss:

(I was going to say dirty mind)

Hi Angela, go for it, and hell, go independent.

I did my own site, which my dad designed, and it uses free software called joomla (no, i don't expect that to mean anything :D). Trust me, I didn't know the first thing about websites or computers when i did it. And it took just constant pottering with it to learn it (f**k the manual). Now I am very confident, and can do all these ubeaut things on my website.

If you don't like loud banners, limit them and/or use text ads. Try listing on www.adbrite.com when you have a bit of traffic. There are a lot of forums for adult webmasters like free traffic trades, content etc. One eg is www.gfy.com (go fuck yourself).

Try affiliates with free content - I use a lot that have free pics/movies/galleries of the day. You can even add your own shop (ie, review an item on your shop).

You can google blog templates and try sites like www.webhostingtalk.com were lots of cheap techies are standing by to upload templates and stuff from as little as $5 US.

Go get em.
