Hey y'all. I'm seriously stumped on how to turn my (currently 25 works) into a "Series" like everyone else has. I can't seem to find a tool for it... and couldn't find anything in the Help section for it.

Right now they're just listed as individual entries.

Help? :)

You can only create a series when you give them exactly the same title, except for the chapter indicator.

this:

Custom Pt. 01 - A New Day
Custom Pt. 02 - Across the Sea

doesn't work, as the additions "A New Day" and "Across the Sea" are different.

Yes. It does work. See my list of submissions.

Thanks everyone. I really don't wanna change the names (they look so cool!), but one of the readers complained it was hard to follow since they weren't in series. I'll try the PM route.

Thanks again!

Okay... Did you indicate it while submitting?

Maybe WhimsicalRepertoire should PM Laurel, to ask her to treat his/her stories as series?

No. The stories were put into story series when that change was made to Literotica.

My latest series additions made today (Christmas Fairy 03) and yesterday (Brigit 04) were added to the series without any request from me.

BUT - I sent a PM to Laurel about 10 days ago asking for my Tripletit stories to be retitled so they can appear in order. So far nothing has happened.

And, as a aside, my four Brigit stories appeared as a series 'Brigit' and were duplicated as another series 'Brigit Pt.'. Odd. I've sent a PM to Manu about that.

Edited for PS: Now Christmas Fairy 01 and 02 is a series and is followed in the list of my stories as another series Christmas Fairy 01, 02, and 03.

The series code looks for two submissions of the same name, followed by a chapter designation, and a number.

The first time it encounters that combination, it creates the series and "locks in" the series title. From that point forward, any story that matches the series title will be added to the series, no matter how many different subtitles follow it.

The code is quite sophisticated, and Manu doesn't get enough credit for it. Once a series has been created, it catches all sorts of oddball combinations. It will even pick up on things like "Danica Prelude" and "Danica: Epilogue" that have no chapter number and place them in the series. It picks up stories that start as "one shots" with no chapter designation, and are then added to with a ch. 02.

For the most part, it doesn't create a series just because two of the author's stories have similar titles. If they're too similar, and any of them is multi-chapter with numbers, it can sometimes get confused.

There's also the known bug of a duplicate series appearing on your submissions page whenever you change the title of a story already existing within a series. It's that very bug that reveals how much of this works, though ;) The series title it "locks in" is different for the duplicate series, based upon your title change, and demonstrates how it catches so many things going forward.

The code is picky about what it uses to start a series, but once a series has been created, it stretches a wide net for the purposes of adding to it.

I get it; and I appreciate that someone took the time to code. It's just strange to me that I'm not allowed to set one up manually, is all (in the story submission -> Drop down -> Select Series / New Series). That would seem simple enough, in my opinion. But I am no programmer :)

Manual creation of a series has always been on the books for addition after all the bugs in the new design are worked out and it goes live site-wide.

Once that's up, it should eliminate the need for the automated series code and allow for much greater author control. You'll no longer be a slave to the chapter designation to create or arrange stories in a series.
