i'm just digging the new BB, thx laurel & manu for the upgrade

while you're making all these exciting improvements to the site, i thought it would be really cool if we could interact one on one with other BB users, kinda like instant messenger, icq or whatever. i know i know, there's a live chat, but i'm lazy and hope against hope that it wouldn't be a pain in the ass to figure out a way to do this.

See page 2 of Cool New Thing. Apparently that's one of the projected upgrades that Laurel & Manu are working on. I think it's a really great idea. I'm with you about being too lazy to go to chat! LOL

Ok, let me be the first to say that this is a bad idea.

With the prevelance of things like AIM, ICQ, and the yahoo thingy... doesn't that sound just a little redundant to everyone??

I enjoy hanging out on this BB because it is NOT a chatroom. I've had damn near all I can take of that type of environment, and the last thing I want is to be annoyed by a bunch of mindless IMs. I have AIM and ICQ and email and have no trouble maintaining contact with people I want to be in contact with.

By the same token, for anyone who does want to contact me, my email addy and ICQ # are both readily available.

But I like my privacy, and just because I have the BB open, doesn't mean I'm not working on other things, and might actually want to be left alone. I'm sure some form of privacy protection would be built into a system of this sort - but I just don't think it's necessary.

duh...sorry i don't have time to read every thread....didn't realize this idea that i thought was so damn original had already been thought of.

laurel & manu are already on the case apparentely and there will be folks who love it and who hate it. oh well, guess it could be optional or something for those who don't wanna be bothered.

I can't believe I'm doing this, but I'm gonna have to agree with Lasher. <gasp!> I mean, it says "Literotica Guru" under his name and that normally means we shouldn't follow his advice, sort of like Richard Simmons being a <gulp> "fitness guru." Still, don't you think that the BB is addictive enough as is? And if anyone, especially Lasher is thinking up a sophisticated and insightful post, a bunch of "Hi, how ya doin'?" messages are going to throw them off. And that.... just a sec.... yes, that... what was I talking about? Case in point, I guess...

Not to slight the genius of Laurel and Manu, but I don't know about it...

What about signing on to the messaging thing like AIM? Or an ignore feature like ICQ has? That way people who want to use it can, and curmudgeons like Lasher don't have to be bothered?

I just saw this as turning into one of those bandwagon threads were everyone slaps each other on the back and tells themselves how great their ideas are. All I wanted to do was point out that there is a downside to something like this... And I actually did get Fox (*gasp*) to think for a second.

I have no doubt that it will be set up in the future and that a lot of people are going to be very happy with it. I just wanna be sure that people think about it a little bit first, that's all...

And none of this was directed at you, April. I don't even think you're first post was up when I started posting... If ya want you can go over to my little board and tell me how much ya like me (and I hear my wife is answering questions over there, too...).

But I do have to agree here with the Lash. There are already a plethora of IM type applications established. Just sign up with AIM, the Yahoo thingy, ICQ, etc. and go with that.

And even if it does get implemented here, can't you just ignore the IM anyway? I can.
