A teacher I keep in contact with just got the boot because he taught the 'Darwin' theory of evolution in a State school. You think children should be exposed to such blasphemy? :D

And two libraries here have banned a number of popular children's stories. They include 'Snow White', because it tells of a girl living with seven deformed men, and 'Little Red Riding Hood', because of possible beastiality connotations!

Anyone else have 'Watch Committees' like these?

No way!!!!

That is so sad and quite shocking really. Either that or I'm very naive.

OHIO - that explains everything :D

I actually expected that it would have been down south in the Bible Belt somewhere.

There seems to be no end of idiots down there. (excluding present company, of course)

The really crafty one was in the UK when "Lady Chatterly" became legal. One county library refused to ban it. They bought one copy and put everyone who requested it on the same waiting list for it.

banning books

By banning the teaching of evolution and by banning or removing books, these "Watch Committees" simply confirm that they are small minded, bigoted, intillectually crippled folk.

The real reason for actions like these, I suspect, is that books and ideas have a power to ignite the questioning intellect that we all have and help to undermine the authority of the governing classes by enabling us to question decisions taken on our behalf by those who should know better.

The early 'Christians have much to answer for - it continues today.

The first things they did - my research shows - is incorporate many Pagan beliefs and practices to appease. Virtually all 'miracles' are copies of numerous similar instances recorded many years before Christianity came into existance. The main thing they did was to change all the 'Deities' from female to male gender. (They couldn't have females superior to males, could they?) They then produced a bible to conform, adding or deleting as convenient. Since then they have banned or incorporated whatever proved to be the most financially lucrative. (Even marriage was a mortal sin until comparatively recently, so that wives could not inherit their husbands chattels. By default these went to the church. I can name at least one gentleman that was raised to sainthood because when he was near death he killed his wife so the church would inherit his goods.

Homosexuals have also recently been embraced - because of the lolly that many have. (Though there is more than a suspicion that their leader was a homosexual, anyway.)

If only some people checked out what they subscribe to, they may be less ready to condemn those that question their beliefs.

However, this and other truths tend to be taboo subjects on forums, causing hate rather than debate. I learn nothing from that, so I will leave it there.

Watch Committees...

nice. Thought police. We are all the thought police.

We police one another's thoughts, catching eatch other out, crying "Witch, witch, burn the witch!"

Lovely.
