In the year 2027 a new virus swept the world, COVID-27. Similar in many ways to the COVID-19 of 2020, it had two important differences. First, it had a long 3 month latency. Secondly, it was deadly to 60% of the post puberty male population. Women died too, but their death rate was below 1% and the aged. When COVID-21b swept through 2 years later the death rates repeated. By 2030 less than 1 in 6 men were left from those in 2027. In some countries it was much worse, with India collapsing along with much of the middle East and Africa being largely depopulated after a round of Ebola. Violent crime all but vanished. Climate change stopped too with a combination of new technology and a much smaller population. Technological progress slammed to a halt as all surviving engineers were repurposed to run power plants, keep the water running, develop vaccines. But COVID-21b had a more insidious trait, noticed in the following year. Male births plummeted. It soon became apparent that girl babies were outnumbering boys by at least 4 to 1. Nations, the developed ones anyway, mobilized.

In the US, a program was instituted to essentially make boys a national asset until adulthood. Mothers were provided the absolute best health care and infant boys were nurtured in her arms until the age of 4. At that time they were sent to isolation in a year-round schooling program where the groups of 100 boys received the best healthcare, education, food and upbringing possible, visiting home during infrequent holidays. They were raised with the best knowledge humanity possessed, growing strong and true. They were driven, polite, athletic and educated. With nothing to compete over other than their sports, they bonded as brothers, a tight society where they knew their entire cohort, and the cohorts around them. When they graduated at the age of 18, nearly all of them went to college to continue their eductions.

While they had been educated in the best ways humanity knew, including sexual education, girls were an enticing mystery, and vice versa. While the had known female teachers, most of these young men had only seen a few girls, brought over by their sister to gawk at them when they visited during holiday. As Max set foot on his college campus for the first time, he was instantly the center of attention.

(obviously risks to H1N1 and SARS-33, but let's just stick with COVID) So now that you've got these kids here, you school and train them year round. Like a 14 year summer camp.

Which also explains why they haven't interacted with girls. After their their yearly 10 day trip home, they go back into 14 day isolation before rejoining their camp, so minimal chances to meet and interact with girls.

As to mf relationships, it seems that the rules would have changed quit dramatically. Would the guys live like rock stars with a new girl every night? Or get a steady girl who then has to fend off other women desperate for his attention? Or maybe his steady girl brings him a new girl every weekend to keep him happy.

Now for the sake of thought experiment, suppose there's a potentially deadly disease with very long dormant and contagious period prior to any noticeable symptoms. But by a strange twist of fate, there's relatively easy way to tell early carriers by visually examining their genitals. In a relatively short time humans go back to the very natural concept of demonstrating genitals to each other for a greeting. Public nudity will likely be normal and welcomed, and perhaps even required, covering up will be seen as suspicious and threatening. However, for the members of the resulting culture there's hardly anything sexual about it all, it's just how mundane things are.

The only way to make that situation hot is to introduce contact between more traditional prudes and the members of post-genital-indicated plague.

But even introduction of the aforementioned disease to prudish society isn't particularly sexy. It probably better to explore cultural contact and mixing way past the disease is cased to be actual threat, but the new behaviors remain just as a way of custom, now introduced to the prudish society somehow. At that point we are back to the invading space nudists and the question why they are that way is next to irrelevant. All we know they see wearing clothes as act of agression.

Here we disagree. I think it would be very interesting to envision what our society would be like today if an entire generation of women had grown up knowing the had no real chance of a stable relationship with a man. No additional wackiness needed.

Okay, I get it, but it makes me think in broader circles that what you're setting up is that girls are carriers (yet (mostly) immune). That in turn makes me think that something Lupus Dei said, about what amounts to a "boy in a plastic bubble" type story, where the guys would be "milked" for their ejaculate.

It makes for the possibilities of interesting stuff like women making girl/girl porn for the guys to jerk off to (because what do guys get aroused about? watching porn of some woman getting fucked; imagining it's them fucking the woman). You could take it futuristic to make it virtual reality type stuff, but that might be more "additional wackiness."

However, I'll maintain that the concept of sequestered students doesn't make sense, unless you want to go with the "women are carriers of the plague" concept, which makes the story concept more misogynistic if you ask me. Otherwise schools could be a germiphobes paradise where the guys live all the time, taught alongside girls, and the girls constantly see these guys who they never see in the outside world.

Also, if women are immune (mostly) to the virus, a major plot hole is that any children the women bear after the plague hits, would make those children likewise immune. (This is one reason that time travel stories always get wrong. Much like the Conquistadores who moved in on South America, who killed not only those that opposed them from smallpox, influenza and measles, but also their allies. Until around 90% (est) of the natives were wiped out, however, those who survived, were more immune to those viruses).

Sorry, but I always try to look at things from the most realistic (most believable) point of view, when considering story lines.

Right now there are 330,425,304 people in America, and roughly have of that is male; so 165, 212,152 are male.

in 2027, 60% are dead, leaving 66,084,861 males.
by 2030 only one in six are males. Normally this would be roughly one out of two. So, instead of one half, it's now one third. (normally, it would be three out of six, but now it's one out of six (not really as impactful as you might think. Okay, here's the thing, before your government stepped in, people were only getting hitched to one woman each. Of the estimated population (based on 2020 data that is), So there were only roughly 66,084,861 couples (not really, but for now, let's forget about the gay population.

Of those couples, they'd normally have two kids each (four kids on average; two male, and two female) but now it's more like around one out of four.

Bearing in mind, that the original female population never dwindled (or by one percent), doesn't matter as much, because it's the number of males to repopulate with has dwindled, therefore, even the female population would dwindle too, they'd just have a larger population in comparison.

If you're talking that one out of every six children born are males, and the average amount of children a couple has is four, then either the virus has affected genes, or you simply mean, that out of every four pregnancies are still two female, and two male, but the males don't come to full term, now that makes some sense that only one out of every three male births go full to term.

However, again, a mother's normal immunity would protect the baby until after birth.

Out of 66,084,861 couples, having, on average, four children each; two female and two males, yet only one third of the males born survive to birth, then 44,012,517 million males would be alive and kicking. That's still too many.

If you meant, for every six women borne, only one male survives, that's still 22,028,287 males borne, yet that is still too many males. There's some part of that math that I still can't equate because the number of females who survive birth doesn't matter, because their numbers should still be devastated as well. Until the government steps in to affect the population control, it still wouldn't matter how many are artificially inseminated, because too many males would survive pregnancy and the female population would still dwindle.

165, 212,152 women, being artificially inseminated (by whatever amount of males), presupposing four children to every woman (average), means 660,848,608 pregnancies, half are girls, that's 330,424,304 females born to 55,070,717 males surviving pregnancy is still too many males.
There's a part of the equation I can't express that female pregnancies would increase but not as much if the plague wasn't going on, thus their numbers would equally "dwindle."

If you went one out of every hundred women born are successful male births, it would still mean 3,304,243 males survive, which still seems like too many.

This is what was in mind even before I read this reply. The men would basically be quarantined and milked like cows until they died of old age. There would be different 'grades' of sperm on the market — the rich get the best DNA the rest get the leftovers. But that's reality — we're not talking strict reality in Lit stories, so pretty much anything is an option.

It could be a really grand scale Lesbian themed story though Stephanie Jobs invents a virtual phallus implant complete with nerve connected sensors for that real to life feel for those women interested — and a variety of other, lower priced, high tech paraphernalia to implant the store bought male seed.
