Covid-19: the positives

It has demonstrated the strengths and weakness in our food delivery systems.

People who tire of complaining about unavailable products and medicines could start learning how to improvise their own solutions, or have them made by local craftsmen and herbalists. That is what the world will do anyway as factories disappear.

It has redefined the meaning and importance of borders (and gates). Good fences make good neighbors, as my dad would say.

This is a reminder that anyone may die at any random time. Betting everything on one politician is easier than building a broad movement to make change, but cough cough, RIP.

Respect for the people who do the poorly paid, thankless, unglamorous, absolutely essential jobs that keep our society functioning.

Anyone still saying that they should find better paid work if they want luxuries (like keeping a roof over their heads, or feeding their families) should now realise that we need people to stay in these jobs.

The shelf stacker keeps your fridge stocked, arsehole!

Social Security stays solvent for a few more years than it would have otherwise.

Dear diary:

Day 12 of lockdown and I'm enjoying my forced vacation. The house has never been cleaner and the bathrooms are being scrubbed at least twice a day!

I sure hope his boss doesn't mind if he doesn't go back to work for a couple more weeks.
