There seem to be a number of music fans here, as well as Beatles fans. I was wondering if anyone could think of another artist's cover of a Beatles tune that you liked as well as (or better) than the original?

For instance, I much prefer Joe Cocker's cover of "I get by with a little help from my friends" to the original Beatles version. Cocker changed the song for me with his interpretation of it.

Any other good covers of Beatles tunes that stick out in your minds for similar reasons?

Get on AudioGalaxy or Morpheus or Limewire and find these "covers" by Frank Zappa... you'll thank me afterwards...

Frank Zappa- I Am The Walrus.mp3

Frank Zappa-Beatles Medley.mp3

And - while you're at it, while its not a copy it is Frank Zappa AND John Lennon:

Frank Zappa and John Lennon - Well.mp3

Whoa! Thanks for the tip, Dillinger--I love Zappa, just never heard these.

Thanks in advance,

I dig the Beatles, my favorite band ever. I've heard a lot of covers I hate because you can't do their songs better than they did, you can only do them differently.

I'm trying hard to think of any I like, I guess Aerosmith's "Come Together" is pretty good, Joe Cocker's "She Came in Through the Bathroom Window" is good.

Dilly, did any of those Zappa songs appear on an album? I'm a Mac user, not sure if I'm able to download those tracks.

I can only imagine....

I heard a great reggae cover version of Strawberry Fields by an Argentinian band called Los Fabulosos Cadillacs with Debbie Harry on vocals on BBC Radio 2 once, think I have it on mp3 somewhere...

Soundtrack

I have just this past weekend heard the soundtrack from the Sean Penn movie "I Am Sam". All Beatles tunes, and some are terrific!

1. Two of Us - Aimee Mann & Michael Penn
2. Blackbird - Sarah McLachlan
3. Across the Universe - Rufus Wainwright
4. I'm Looking Through You - The Wallflowers
5. You've Got to Hide Your Love Away - Eddie Vedder
6. Strawberry Fields - Ben Harper
7. Mother Nature's Son - Sheryl Crow
8. Golden Slumbers - Ben Folds
9. I'm Only Sleeping - The Vines
10. Don't Let Me Down - Stereophonics
11. Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds - The Black Crowes
12. Julia - Chocolate Genius
13. We Can Work It Out - Heather Nova
14. Help - Howie Day
15. Nowhere Man - Paul Westerberg
16. Revolution - Grandaddy
17. Let It Be - Nick Cave

The first two, to my knowledge are not on any albums. AudioGalaxy doesn't work with Macs though I hear they're developing a version for the Mac. Who knows when it will be available.

BUT - there is a Mac version of Limewire... http://www.limewire.com - check it out.

If you can't find them there - and you've got a fast enough net connection and want to PM me your email address I'll send you the songs.

Oh... the song "Well" - is on an album... Lennon/Ono's two album set "Sometime in NYC" - Side 4 is with the Mothers.

I'm *going* to have to get this album. :D

Also - has anyone else heard Eleanor Rigby by GodHead? It's the only reason why I bought their album... and to be completely honest, it's the only reason why ANYONE would by their album. But it's interesting hearing a Beatles tune gothed up. :)

I'm going to recommend giving Soundgarden's "Come Together" a shot. Recorded fairly early in their career, so it is fairly hard. I like it quite a bit, but I also hated Aerosmith's version.
