What's your favorite cover song?

Natalie Merchant does a bad ass cover of Bowie's 'Space Oddity' that I really enjoy.

Reel Big Fish does fucking awesome covers of Duran Duran's 'Hungry like the Wolf' and Ah-Ha's 'Take on Me'....Forgot about those till just now.

The Man In Black

"Rusty Cage"

Soundgarden wrote it...Johnny Cash perfected it! Mostly accoustic and gritty as hell!

He's also covered Leonard Cohen, Bob Dylan, Beck, U2, Tom Petty, Neil Diamond, Nick Cave, Glenn Danzig...the list goes on.

And whether it's a song he wrote or someone elses he's performing, He's been my absolute favorite since I was about 7 when I heard "One Piece at a Time" about his mismatched Cadillac.

Revolting Cocks did a great version of "If you think I'm Sexy"

I also heard an Awesome punk / thrash cover of Berlin's "The Metro"

Anyone know who does it?

as i was goin' over
the Cork and Kerry mountains
i saw Captain Farrell
and his money he was countin'
i first produced my pistol
and then produced my rapier
i said stand and deliver
or the devil he may take ya

i took all of his money
and it was a pretty penny
i took all of his money
yeah i brought it home to Molly
she swore that she'd love me
never would she leave me
but the devil take that woman
for you know she treat me easy

musha ring dum a doo dum a da
whack for my daddy-o
whack for my daddy-o
there's whiskey in the jar-o

being drunk and weary
i went to Molly's chamber
takin' my money with me
and i never knew the danger
for about six or maybe seven
in walked Captain Farrell
i jumped up, fired off my pistols
and i shot him with both barrels

musha ring dum a doo dum a da
whack for my daddy-o
whack for my daddy-o
there's whiskey in the jar-o

now some men like the fishin'
and some men like the fowlin'
some men like ta hear
ta hear cannon ball a roarin'
me i like sleepin'
specially in my Molly's chamber
but here i am in prison
here i am with a ball and chain yeah

musha ring dum a doo dum a da
whack for my daddy-o
whack for my daddy-o
there's whiskey in the jar-o

whiskey in the jar-o
musha ring dum a doo dum a da

New Found Glory's version of The Glory of Love makes me happy too.

It can't be as broad as that. There are too many professional writers who never performed, like everyone in the Brill Building or on Tin Pan Alley. I's say it a song previously recorded and released by someone else.

Neither?
I was just sayin, had you just said,"Yannow Tess,I'd really like to see your breasts",I woulda got em out for ya.

I'm an accomodating kinda girl.

I knew this, I have asked before, remember?

Okay.

Lemme rephrase.

I'm an accomodating kinda girl with a bad memory.

Rawhide!

DK's Rawhide! I find I have a total disregard of traffic laws and speed limits when I have that song in the tape deck.

Mike Ness of Social Distortion fame put out an entire cover album a few years back called "Under the Influences" with covers of Marty Robbins' "Big Iron" and Hank Williams' "Long Black Veil"

In 1981 and 1996 Social Distortion covered the "Under My Thumb"

They also covered Johnny Cash's "Ring Of Fire"

Hank Williams III did a great cover of Cash's "Cocaine Blues"

And the Stray Cats did a cover of "Can't Hurry Love"

And the Charlie Daniels Band did a wicked cover of the old Robert Mitchum song "Thunder Road" about running from the law with a trunk fulla Moonshine.

All worth checking out.

...Unless you don't like Country, Rockabilly or Punk.
