Couples mixing - but WHICH couples? Who's getting off with whom?

I can't recall which thread it was on SI not that long ago - someone was suggesting a kind of two couples pairing off illicitly situation, each pair unaware of the other's shenanigans.

I think the crunch was that the moment of penetration/intromission happens simultaneously. A hard ask to achieve as a writer but probably worth going for.

What I'd like to tease out of folk is what kind of pairings would produce the maximum erotic wow factor. Granted that everyone has different tastes or kinks, even so it strikes me that there is usually a large degree of commonality between us.

What we already have here is the secrecy. If we made it simply two married couples, we'd then be adding infidelity. Can we bring in other factors to add, say, incest, age, whatever..? Also, what extra plot devices might be needed if these were brought in, in order to maintain credibility - setting, relationships, back stories etc.?

Anyone have their own favourite take on this? The only stipulation is that this should be in respect of, as said, two couples. We are not talking orgies.

Real good thread here.
You can't go wrong with the old "opposites attract" idea.
But for maximum wow factor, in my opinion, it would be the two couples who are kinda sexually compatible but not perfectly. Often these things people settle for when picking a partner and over a period of years it becomes an issue. Then they meet the other couple and find their ideal partner.

Bob and June move in next door to Charles and Janet. Both couples are in their early thirties. June is sweet and pleasant to be around in public, but she is a complete domme privately. When they first met, Bob liked it, but as the years passed, not so much.

Charles and Janet are a great couple, terrific friends, but sex has always been a bit of a yawner. Charles isn't much of a take-charge guy and doesn't think much about getting her off.

The couples get together for dinner to welcome Bob and June to the neighborhood and the attraction is instantaneous.

June finds someone in Charles who will worship her and be her plaything. Charles finds his mistress. Janet finds someone in Bob who will make her feel everything a woman should and he finds someone who appreciates his manliness.

I wrote a story about two couples who swap. One of the husbands had a long, thin dick. The other one had a short, fat dick. The two wives, sharing intimate secrets about their sex lives with each other, each want to experience what the other gets on a regular basis, and they arrange for the swap. I didn't have any secrecy involved as all four were doing it together, but that would have been a valid way to play it.

With switching, I have to go with two lesbian couples. Yes, for a possible future orgy.

How about this?

Couple (living in Penzance, Cornwall) invite their daughter and son-in-law (living in London) for the weekend.

The daughter eventually has to travel on her own to Cornwall because husband has to stay for unexpected new job interview.

The wife, returning from visiting a sick relative on the continent, has her flight to LHR delayed and can't make the last train Paddington - Penzance. She rings home and daughter, already there, tells her no problem - there's always the London flat... she'll call to let hubby know MIL is coming.

Soon she is coming...

Dad/daughter, wife/son-in-law... simultaneous penetrations and orgasms 100 miles apart...

Yes, equally possible.

I'm surprised there haven't been more contributions to this thread. it's a good start point for the imagination. There's the very obvious scenario which hasn't yet been mentioned, namely the 'pina colada' situation - husband and wife both advertise for new partners behind each others' backs..?

I was always dubious that the couple from that song would stay together. They both just found out that their partner is a cheater! It should have driven an irresistible wedge between them.

There was a similar plot on a Munsters episode: both Herman and Lily secretly took a part time job so they could buy each other a present (not sure if that was the motivation). They both got the same job: welder. And they both got assigned to the same shift. But since they were wearing welding helmets, they didn't know it was each other. They started flirting and.... well, no spoilers here. The episode is only fifty or so years old.

Although obvious, as you put it, I have read precious few stories which explore this possibility. Perhaps writers do convince themselves that it's a hackneyed theme and beneath them - or much more likely they baulk at the degree of writing effort required to produce a really satisfying story from it. You would need to go above and beyond the simple "pina colada" situation to keep the reader's interest.

Ok, you have the neat juxtaposition of a couple who cheat on each other in the same way... but then what? Perhaps push the envelope to have them discover that the dates they end up with are the husband and wife from a second couple - and people that they know..? The couple next door? Maybe blind dates, darkened rooms and masks might come into this? Food for thought.
