Can you tell us a bit about your blue laws on Erotica and other naughty bits things?

I've heard that videos can't be broadcast, but I'm not sure what can be sold in stores. I've also heard that mags like Playboy and Penthouse are restricted or banned despite the presence of 'toy' stores.

Can you enlighten?

you can pretty much get Playboy and Penthouse in any corner shop, same with the dirtier mags. and what do you mean 'videos can't be broadcast'? We have loads of adult channels too.

^^ Hard "R" or "XXX"? I had heard that certain things couldn't be shown which meant most typical adult videos.

But that's the purpose of this thread ... to clarify information.

Most porn videos can be broadcast on sex channels. After 9pm on almost all TV channels adult material can be broadcast but usually isn't - a commercial decision, not censorship.

There are categories of videos that can only be sold in licensed sex shops which cannot admit under 18s, but most videos sold in them could be seen/broadcast on adult channels. Those that are 'R' rated can be bought as well but most sales are not 'R'.

There are videos that are banned completely such as 'snuff' and 'bestiality' but they can be found illegally. Some of these can be not as described i.e. sold as hard core porn according to the cover, and soft core recorded on the DVD, or even episodes of 'Friends' or 'The Simpsons'. The message for illegal videos is 'Buyer Beware'.

That's just fucking sick.

You must be thinking of the 1960's or something.

Hear ye hear ye. In the name of the King I do solemnly declare that all fornicators and those guilty of unnatural and lewd acts shall be placed in the stocks in town square and beaten upon their bare bottoms by the bailiff, that all good citizens might bear witness to their shame.

Europe is very relaxed in all thing sexual. The US is very uptight sexually. In England prostitution is generally ignored except for street walkers and brothels. The rule on brothels are that no more than two people can operate out of a building for sex.

You can buy Playboy in most newsagents, they are kept on the top shelf.... we have less restrictive tv than the US, we have a watershed of from nudity and bad language which is after 9pm. Watch Skins which is aimed at late teens and early 20s, full of sex, drugs and language that would give most Americans a heart attack...The exposure of Janet Jackson's nipple wasn't a national incendent because we are the nation of The Sun and page three,
people can see bare breasts at the breakfast table in a national paper and it is not censored.

We have The Sunday Sport which is sold in most newsagents/convenience stores. Some chains refuse to stock it or put it on a high shelf but it is easily available.

If you have restricted settings on your computer, The Sunday Sport might give it indigestion. :D

Then there is The Sun Page 3. The Sun is a 'family' newspaper but boobs have been appearing on Page 3 for years.

much too uptight stateside..
In my hometown, there is a city ordinance that states no more than 5 unrelated women can reside in the same home as a way to prevent brothels and such. It serves no purpose today except to prevent sorority houses :(

And we don't have laws against vibrators or dildos either....
