A loving couple in their mid to late 30's who have an open relationship are finally getting hitched. They plan on visiting a swingers resort for their honeymoon and get wait to get down to the naughty stuff. Only thing is they wake up the next morning and find that they have swapped bodies. They get through the day trying to come up with a solution and end up getting married. The girlfriend (in the boyfriends body) convinces that they should have sex just to atleast see what it feels like to be in each others shoes.

And this whole body swap doesnt seem to be going away and the husband (in the wife's body) is scared that he must now go through with the honeymoon plan as the wife.

Now here is where I am having a bit of trouble. I am trying to come up with some ideas on what caused this body swap....

1. Some kind of magical object they find in an old mansion that they've rented to host their wedding in that causes the change.
2. They have their wedding at a beach front hotel/ property and decide to go for a late night swim when a lighting storm comes and hits the water....

can anyone help! this is a sort of a new genre for me and am trying to come up with something....

some sort of magic spell is a common trope.

Maybe the bride's "something old" is a tiny charm of a genie's lamp. The night before the wedding she is rubbing fiance's cock, the charm rubbing against his shaft, as she mutters, "gee, I wish I could trade places with you and see how it feels to have one of these..."

A mechanism, eh? Sure, it can be plain old magic. Depends on where you want the tale to go. Heads toward EH if the body-swap resulted from black magic or demonic action or curse. Or SF if the swap resulted from a Mad Scientist beaming evil rays into their resort room in a grotesque experiment. (Maybe others there were also affected.) Or they were bitten by radioactive mutant hermaphrodite banana slugs.

Or, the easy way: no explanation. It just happened, like Kafka's Metamorphosis. They wonder for a bit, then go in with their lives. Maybe at the end we see the Mad Scientist grinning from behind their control panel, or the supervising demon looking down...

It turns out that both the man's tux, which he inherited from his grandfather and the woman's dress, which she inherited from her grandmother, were made for them in the same shop almost 80 years ago with some of the same fabric. As they are each examining the exquisite works separately 10 miles away from each other, they both find hidden pockets, each with a small piece of paper inside. They each read it at the same time, unbeknownst to each other.

Alternatively, the woman and the man could both be the only grandchild in the family and so both families agree that the woman will wear the man's grandmother's dress and the man will wear the woman's grandfather's tux. The finding and the reading could happen before they swap the formalwear.

Maybe the notes are supposed to mystically enhance the wearer's sexual enjoyment, but were only supposed to be read by the wearer.

Things could get awkward within family or wedding party too. Hubby & Wife won't have swapped memories, so Hubby-in-wife's body might not realize he has to be careful what he says to wife's cousin/aunt/whatever who has always had a crush on wife, and knows nothing of the change. Same with wife-wearing-hubby's bod, in that one of the groomsmen may have always wanted him, and the husband has always kept him at arm's length. Weddings might even arouse said groomsman (with all these guys in tuxes!) Could even wind up with some same-sex kissing in the wedding pictures...

Good old Thorne Smith! Yes, the body-swap trope isn't new. Weren't there soul transferences in biblical texts or the Upanishads? As for how it's done, Wikipedia sez:
There are different types of body swapping. For non-technology swapping, switches can be caused by magic items such as amulets, heartfelt wishes, or just strange quirks of the universe. The switches typically reverse after the subjects have expanded their world views, gained a new appreciation for each other's troubles by literally "walking in another's shoes" and/or caused sufficient amounts of farce...

Switches accomplished by technology, exempting gadgets advanced sufficiently to appear as magic, are the fare of mad scientists... Those without such [technology] may resort to brain transplants. Such experiments can have overtones of horror.
IMHO concentrate on what results, not on how it happens. Sure, the cause influences the effect. A demonic body-swap might involve more and rougher sex. An angel going ZAP! to swap minds to teach the fuckers a lesson may lead to romantic comedy or unintended fetishism. Random magic could lead to anything. How does the story end?

That's sort of what I was trying to say. How they deal with swapped bodies is the more interesting issue. If your personality has been taken from your body and put into someone else's, then while you might feel like you're going crazy or dreaming, you could still move your hands and explore. If you've been swapped with a loved-one, you would have a partner in the insanity, and I would think it would bond you even better, but then there is also the temptations you've never experienced. If you're a guy, and you want a woman, but she only wants other women, it's frustrating. If suddenly you are now a nice looking woman, the lesbians that have all told you "no" before are (at least in your mind) suddenly potentially available. I know I have heard women talking about the universe being unfair because a given man was gay.

Would sexual preference stay with the body or switch with the personality? It could be really awkward if the couple didn't want each other anymore. If they were not attracted, would they get married or not? Maybe get married and go on the planned and paid for honeymoon to give themselves time to decide...

Quite. The mechanism is just a story device. The story can go anywhere. The OP's pre-wedding swap can go anywhere -- choose an ending and go there. Is the swap temporary (so they learn something) or permanent (so they're stuck there)? How does new body chemistry affect their preferences and feelings? Do they indulge whims and fantasies? Can we expect Scooby-Doo chases?

A two-person swap is only a subset of the mind-in-a-different-body trope.

1 person:
* Consciousness is moved to a cloned body, or they're magically regressed to youthfulness.
* A pre-pubescent kid goes comatose or otherwise skips a few real-time years and awakens with an adult body wrapping a young mind.

2 person:
* The kind discussed previously here.
* A friendly or hostile takeover of another mind, by human or other.
* A random mind-body swap -- why us?

Multiples:
* A small group of 2-4-5-whatever swap minds amongst themselves.
* Random swaps across a population.
* A hive-mind falls apart.

Some of those can go pretty weird. Fun fun fun...

What if the two found themselves connected, mentally? (historic family rings used for weddings by either family, maybe?)

Suddenly, it isn't two people anymore, but one person with two trains of thought and two bodies. Such an Advantage/disadvantage rolled into one!

Can't you get like ..... publicly stoned to death in the town square for even thinking of this kind of stuff there?

Well i was thinking that their first night in each others body could go a bit in the romantic direction and then slowly they resign to the fact that they might not back back to their old bodies. The man loves how intense the sex is and the woman loves the power of having a cock.

I was thinking this could go multi-part. Maybe even send them off on a honeymoon where they enjoy the pleasures of exchanging partners, engaging in voyeuristic activities, gangbangs, lesbian sex etc.... a lot of possibilities.

since they are a couple about to get married, yes there would be temptations. He (in her body) would be attracted to other women. I know this may sound unfair as you clearly pointed out above, but I think mentally she (in the mans body) would rather want to feel how it is fuck other women. After all sexual experiences with different partners would always vary.

Well, they would still want each other, but somewhere I was thinking that since they cant switch back, they each decide that maybe they could explore the possibilites of opening up their marriage to include other partners. Which is why I was talking about a honey moon to a swingers resort which had already been paid for in advance. While She (in mans body) thinks its a great idea and she'll get to fuck other women, he (in womans body) is hesitant but eventually gives in to desire and lust.

I agree that the aftermath is more important than the mechanism of the swap, but you still need the reader to be able to suspend disbelief. How about a good old-fashioned post-hypnotic suggestion? Maybe a year ago, at a party, they announced their engagement, and the evening's entertainment was a parlor hypnotist. He put them both under, and implanted the suggestion, "on the night before your wedding, you will switch identities! It will last for two weeks/until you do XXX/until ZZZ happens, etc."

This story has been done an infinite number of times in main stream media in various forms including 'Freaky Friday' and 'Dr. Jekyll and Ms. Hyde' which is of course a variation on a different story. Suspension of belief is not really a hurdle when dealing with fantasy stories.
