Could you pull off a role play as the opposite sex?

A lot of people here write opposite of their gender and many first person. I write a lot as a female and I was asked recently if I thought I was good enough at it to pull off a role play or cyber on yahoo without the guy knowing.

My answer is yes, I feel I could easily do it especially when you throw in how eager some of these guys are to cyber and probably aren't paying all that much attention.

Now would I do it? No because I think that would be kind of sleazy, but let's face it, there are a lot of men here (here meaning lit in general not the ah) doing it and a few women posing as guys.

But my question is simply, do you think you could be convincing enough to hold that part in an on going role play or would you eventually tip yourself off somehow?

I am going to admit another reason for my asking this is I was just involved in one where I had some doubts then three exchanges in they said something about how I was getting them hard (rather than wet) they must have realized it because they never sent another message:D

I can't pull off a role play as myself, never mind as a man.

I couldn't write long-term as a woman. I think it's an extremely rare gift and very few authors have ever truly had it. Madame Bovary, I suppose, is a wonderful creation of the empathetic imagination, but I cannot think of many others.

No, I do not think I could. But:
The idea makes an intriguing plot bunny.

LC has that gift.

I have written first POV as a woman. I think I did a good job of it.

Now as for role play. Writing, even in 1st POV, is completely different than a role play conversation.

My first thought would Yuck...no way.

My second thought would be why would I want too, I mean I don't even role play as a man.

Although I might be good at it...I had a long time AH member who shall remain nameless, believing I was a woman with an Alt ID. ;)

But then again...why would I want to pretend I was a woman in a role play situation? Never entered my mind.

Oops. Reminds me of a favourite movie line: "Aliens? Us? Is this one of your Earth jokes?"

I've rpd as a man, and also as a trans woman. I don't know if I was convincing, but it was a lot of fun...

Why not?

I think it takes a lot of insight into the human condition to pull off being a member of the opposite sex. Mostly we are who we are, and to convert to something else takes a lot of understanding of the other gender. I know my writing is far more relaxed and even enjoyable when I'm being myself.

I used to pose as a female lesbian mom on a chat site. It was a real hoot when I was able to pull it off.

Its not so much about wanting to as the question of could? So in other words do you feel you could be that convincing as the opposite sex when dealing directly with someone?

Probably not, as I would always be asking myself "Why are you doing this?"

True, my reason would simply be because its sleazy and deceptive, but the idea of the challenge is interesting.

When we write a story as the opposite sex we can take our time and we can edit. We can keep changing things we see that does not sound like something that character would really say etc....

In a role play, especially if it was a fast back and forth through yahoo, you don't have that opportunity and really have to "become" that sex or you start doing things like telling the other person how hard you;re getting when you're supposed to be a girl:rolleyes:

I managed to write successfully as jeanne_d_artois until I revealed on April Fool's Day that she was one of my alts. A couple of people were very annoyed. They had believed that jeanne was a real woman.

I have written one story about role play: http://www.literotica.com/s/pleasure-dome-1

The opposite sex wasn't.

Because I have a small pic of a certain green eyed redhead posing behind a fan on my page many people on reader side do think I am a woman. Of course the fact I publish under a female pen name on Smashwords adds to that if they look there and I get a ton of "fan mail" that involves compliments as to how sexy and hot I am, requests for pictures, cock pics etc....

My reply is usually "thank you for supporting my work" and I leave it at that I never play the role and say "Thank you, baby! Hmmm I get so wet when my readers tell me how much they want me:rolleyes:

My wife offered to let me send a couple of pics of her-cleavage shots things of that nature- but I'm not going to lie about that.

But one of these days I am going to get one internet romeo too many and send them a pic maybe even one of those classy cock shots like they send me and say "Here it is honey, come get it"

Me acting like a woman? Piece of cake. :)

"How often do I have to tell you to PUT THE FUCKING TOILET SEAT DOWN!"

"Yes I know I used up all the hot water, but it's your own fault for not installing a bigger boiler."

"I have nothing to wear! Give me your credit card."

"I've got a head ache."

"Shit! I didn't cum yet, you selfish brute."

"I broke a nail!"

"Remote? What remote? I haven't seen any remote?"

"Why do I always have to do EVERYTHING around here?"

"Do I look fat in this?"

"WHAT DO YOU MEAN, KIND OF? YOU DON'T LOVE ME ANY MORE! WAHHH!"

Another reason I couldn't do it...I don't chat or text. You want to talk to me in real time, use the fn phone or skype me or jump in teamspeak...but don't text me, unless you don't care if you never get an answer.

I never thought about it, but it's an interesting question. Could I? Never tried it. I've never done a rold-play, but back about 18 - 20 years ago I was newly divorced and spending a lot of time alone at home. The internet and chat were new to me and I did get involved in chat rooms and had a lot of 'fun'.

I could probably convince the type of guy that populated the Prodigy chat rooms then, the kind of guy that pounced on anyone who came into the room with something like, "A/S/L - want to cyber?".

What would be really hard would be to convince another woman that I was a woman, for instance if a lesbian were to want to cyber with me thinking that I was also a woman. I doubt that I could do it convincingly. But then would that situation ever arise? I've always thought a lesbian would have too much class for that.

Ouch.. That hurt. :D

Not even touching on the subject of pen names and erotic works - I think it's easy for us to believe we can be convincing as the opposite sex but when it really comes down to it....for me, and only me....the answer is no.

Sure, short term, for a few hours of pleasure....yes, I can more than likely handle being a dude. However, let the relationship turn into anything more or our conversations be the slightest bit profound and I'd be done for. I'd like to think that men sit around all day scratching their balls, masturbating, and are possibly the easiest to fool but men in some ways are just as complicated as any woman I have ever known. Just as smart too.

Honestly. I can't even pretend to be a lesbian! And I've had about two hot handfuls of girly fun experiences. Sad, isn't it?

I'd only correct the one about the credit card. With the internet and Amazon and every other site spending is a click away.....

I don't cyber or text chat. The quick typing is not my thing.

But if i did... yeah, I think I could pull that off.

I'm not proud of it but yeah, in my younger years (like, 15 years ago) I've pulled it off, both with males and females on the other end (and, likely with other males pretending to be females).

The most difficult experience was a very nice young lesbian getting a bit of crush on my female alter-ego. We had done some steamy chat sessions, and then began to email back and forth for a few weeks. I realized she was starting to get attached and that I was just leading her on. She was, naturally, humiliated and upset when I told her the truth. That was the last time I ever roleplayed as a female. Like Lovecraft said in the OP, yeah, it's a sleazy thing to do, especially if you're going beyond a quick-and-dirty chat and actually pretending to reveal something about yourself while they're revealing they're secrets.

This whole time in the NaNo cabin you weren't a girl? I thought we were all girls! Don't tell me MST and LC aren't girls either!!!

;)

LOL. I have nothing more to add to this than, LOL!

I can and have - to another woman, too. Not one of my finer moments, quite honestly. More an experiment that I later felt bad about for leading the other person on.

For the sake of redemption - I'm going to add WHY I did it - it came from a conversation with my wife about how different the internet is for women. She suggested that I try it, I did, and oh-boy, was she right!

In a lot of ways, I think all guys (especially those with daughters) should consider the idea of striking out for an evening or two as a female and seeing just how sleazy it can be for a woman online. It's an eye opener!
