There is something very, very, VERY odd going on with youtube LGBT content makers. I'll find a video maker talking about important topics, say pushing for trans rights, or pointing out the harm of homophobia, or pushing some other right cause(asexual awareness, an argument against racism, really anything that seems good) and then half way through the video they'll just randomly make this bizarre joke about Stalin being hot, or how Russia Communisms was great, and then they'll go back to their argument.

What, what the crap is going on???

Stalin was a dictator that had countless people killed and put countless people away in concentration camps, many of these people were put there FOR BEING QUEER. The guy and his government system had countless people that were queer locked up.

So why is it that SO MANY people pushing for LGBT rights think it's okay to make light of something like this? It's so, twisted. They point out countless things that have been done against the LGBTQ and then in the very next breath they add to it by saying Stalin was a great guy.

It's mind boggling and there is never any explanation of context after wards, they just move right on acting like nothing was said, and nobody ever seems to point it out in the comment section as it being really messed up.

It's actually gotten to the point where I'm starting to avoid pro LGBT videos on youtube because making light of Stalin is just so common place in them. Honestly, what is going on?

I haven't seen those - can you post a link? Stalin killed more of his fellow citizens that Hitler, that's for sure and didn't have the decency to shoot himself

Ya, can't blame you for wanting a video on this because it is so weird and random.

Here ya go: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pvqGKNrLKZQ&t=435s

Skip to minute 6:50. This is what I'm talking about and as you can see, they just randomly show the communist Russia flag and have a little laugh about it and then move right along to fighting for trans rights, never realizing that you know, communist Russia would lock you away for being trans.

But ya, I don't get it and this 'joke' just pops up a lot.

I would post more, but every time it happens I just get really flustered and unsubscribe to the poster and it's always a 10 second joke, blink and you miss it, thing in the video. It's just there, just like in this video, and then they move on and nobody mentions it. So it's actually a bit hard to try and relook up examples of it.

Thanks, I looked and she holds up a copy of Karl Marx's manifesto and then throws it away like garbage without further discussion. It might be an odd choice of "books not worth reading" but they exist so... I'd say she was lampooning Marx and the communist state. She then goes on to discuss a transphobic book which I'd find far more triggering than a political book. Credit to her for putting time into the research into what transphobes are arguing about. If we're to defeat our enemies, we need to know what they're thinking.

I'll keep an eye out for other references though and I totally get why you unsubscribe. I'd be pissed if she held up a Brexit discussion paper, even in jest.

Missed this before, but my first guess would have been that she's making fun of the "cultural Marxism" nonsense, which claims that things like LGBTI rights are a communist plot to destroy Western society.

FWIW, Stalin and Marx are very different figures, and actual communists are heavily divided on Stalin - there are "tankies" who see him as a champion of communism who did what was necessary for the cause, and non-tankies who seem him as a murderous tyrant who hijacked communism for his own ends.

Marx's "Communist Manifesto" was published back in 1848, seventy-odd years before the Russian Revolution, so even if somebody's unironically advocating Marx it's not necessarily an endorsement of Soviet communism. Stalin killed a lot of Marxists.
