Every family has that weird uncle who never married, has no other family, does stuff like get his science from the Fortean Times and his politics from some conspiracy-nut newsletter with five other subscribers. Shows up at Thanksgiving, drinks a little too much, and goes on a half hour screed about how "they're" having a secret subcomittee meeting at the next Bilderburg Conference to decide which "colored" is going to be the next president.

Sure, he's racist, crazy, wrong about 90% of the time. But he's amusing until he makes it personal. And after a while people get sick of seeing fifty threads about exactly the same thing, so most people ignore him.
