I was listening to the nightly news and it scared me. The newscasts they replayed from over there are sobering. They want us. If not now it will only be a matter of time I'm afraid.

I think they are pushing the boundaries to see how far they actually can go. If China wasn't involved, we probably would have put them in check a long time ago.

They do not "want us." They would certainly like to have the southern half of the Korean peninsula, but they don't want US.
Look at it this way. Al Qaeda makes a big deal about their patience and loving death as much or more than Americans love life. Seventy virgins, etc.
You never hear that rhetoric from North Korea. The propaganda from the NK government to its people is that they can beat the United States like a cheap drum. They will slaughter us. Lay our souls to waist.
The government certainly knows better, but most of the people probably don't because they have no access whatsoever to outside communication. Think how embarrassing it would be for NK to actually shoot at us or our allies and have us shoot back. Because if we shoot back, we're actually going to hit shit and hurt lots of folks.
According to the website globalfirepower.com North Korea is the 28th ranked military in the world, just barely edging out Ethiopia and Spain, while trailing Saudi Arabia, Sweden, Vietnam and Poland.
Appearances notwithstanding, North Korean leaders are not insane or suicidal, but they've frequently been able to wield a measure of international influence by acting like it. So they often do.
