Could any of us have passed the 8th grade in 1895?

Lol it seems really daunting to see that now and realize how "little" we learn over 100 years later when compared to them. However, I think if we had all been exposed to that kind of learning process, we'd have done fine -- unless, of course, we were just poor students. :)
 
fair enough, but some of this was almost "cultural knowledge." take those 1895 kids, and drop a current 8th grade final on them. hell, i'm and '88 kid and i don't know how i'd do. the single greatest thing the exam reveals? there was a far greater respect for the basics and i wish we'd get back to that.

Great point. I think that's what I was kind of struggling to try and get at... sort of... lol.
 
WH had a wonderful thread about this exact same test sometime last summer.
