Thomas Moore was 26 and has been a mercenary ever since he was a teen. He didn't belong to any mercenary group so he mostly got contracted to help fill the ranks of any army or if he was in a lull between contracts he would do a bit of bounty hunting, During one of his contracts he found the town of Raven's Nest. It was a small town the only big thing in the town was what he guessed was a religious temple of some sort. While he lived in town he had heard that the temple was running a healing service for anyone who needed it. He was told it was free but they took donations and though he knew that the temple was a religious on they were running a scam to ensure they had money. He also knew that a few knew of the scam itself so he didn't condem them for it.

While walking around the town he spotted a lovely priestess and instantly fell in love with her. He didn't know at the time but he couldn't have her unless she left the temple. The temple thought that the virgin priestesses had magical healing powers that would vanish if they were deflowered. What was really happening was they were using healing herbs in their potions and other medicines. He finally grew the courage to talk to her and that day he walked up to her saying "Hello you are looking lovely today my name is Thomas. How are you?"

Davina La' Rouge was just barely 18 when she had been brought to Ravens Nest from an orphanage 20 leagues south. She had been brought there when she had been found wandering the moors at age six, when her village had been attacked and her parents murdered in front of her.

The orphanage took profit in selling it's orphans into servitude of many kinds. They were always promised a better life, though some became whores while others slaves, though once in a while the priesthood would come through. They would look through the selection and pick the prettiest girls. They had wanted to take her when she was 10, but despite lacking a great deal of morals. The head mistress had taken a liking to her. She was quiet, and obedient, and rarely talked, so she made them return for her.

It wasn't that Davina was touched in the head, it was actually quite the opposite. She was intuitive, intelligent, and very observant. When they came for her, as she had heard they would she said nothing. Instead she looked for a way to escape, that was until she began her work as a healer. She found a profound purpose and gift in the ability to comfort the sick. Even though she knew she didn't have the magical powers they sold her abilities to be, she felt a great piece in helping to at least heal their minds with soft words of comfort.

Unlike the other priestess' she didn't believe in the things they'd been brought up to believe in. Though she would simply follow along and mimic what they did, making her appear to be in compliance with the teachings they tried shoving down her throat.

Walking back from the market after purchasing some loaves of bread her eyes came upon the most loveliest looking man she had ever seen. He was absolutely the perfection of the male form. Tall, muscled, chiseled jaw, and a voice that seemed to sing into her ears. Pulling up her hooded cloak, her eyes darted around nervously to see if anyone was watching.

"I am Davina, and I must go, I cannot be caught talking to a man outside the temple" With a quick curtsy she turned and darted through the crowd. That night as she lay upon her cot she closed her eyes and saw his face. She knew nothing about this man she had met, other then his eyes were kind, his smile was infectious, and she wanted to see him again.

Thomas hadn't expected this reaction from Davina and he couldn't figure out why she acted the way she did. He wondered if the temple had anything do do with why she had ran off like she had. He knew that without talking to her he wouldn't get any answers but. he could see where the problem laid in his plans.

The day drew to an end when a messenger knocked at his door with a bounty. that sounded more like night hunting than anything. The bounty was for someone to camp out on a farm a couple of miles from town and if the information was correct it sounded like a wolf or pack of wolves hunting down the farm animals for food during the night.

He packed a few essential things for the night and headed out. If everything went as expected he would be home before lunch. One thing he knew was good about this bounty was the fact he was getting two payments one from the bounty and one from the pelts. He made camp on the edge of the farm next to the fence that held the cattle in out of the woods.

He was in his tent when he heard something walk past. He grabbed his bow knocking an arrow before opening the flap to stare down the pack's Alpha male. Without a warning the wolf had attacked him tearing at his throat the only bit of flesh that was exposed. He quickly took the dagger from his belt and dispatched the wolf before the rest heard the commotion that went on. He bandaged himself up before grabbing his bow again heading out hunting the rest. After he cleared the other wolves out he checked his neck and sighed glad that the chunk the Alpha took was just skin. He knew that if it was something deeper he would still be bleeding. He skinned the wolves and packed up camp heading back to the town so he could get some medical attention.

He didn't know what time that the temple would open it's doors for the public so he went home first dropping almost everything off then he sold the pelts so that they wouldn't ruin. He walked over to the temple knocking hard on the door when he got there. He waited there for someone to come to the door.

The door creaked open as a tall lanky bald priest opened the door. "Welcome to the healing temple of Ravens Nest" he said looking the man up and down trying to ponder how much he could profit from his visit. "For free or a small donation a basic healer can tend to your ailments for a larger donation our magical virgin healers can do much better"

The priests were all about the profit that could be made. The magical healers were the ones that were the most beautiful virgins. Some men would fake their ailments just to visit and have these girls lay their hands upon them. There wasn't anything sexual about it. But their beauty and gentleness often led to a brothel visit after where they could close their eyes and imagine one of these divine beauties pleasuring them.

**
Davina and the other girls went to their areas when the knock came on the door. Davina was considered magical, she wasn't aware of the exact reason she and a few other girls were placed separately and had fewer visitors, just that they were often visited by the same men often. Her favorite times where when she could help out on the main floor, and actually accomplish something.

The sight of Thomas was still in her mind, though she didn't wish him injured, she wondered if he'd come and seek her out. Not that it would do any good. She wasn't allowed conversations with men. Even getting out of the temple was a treat. But even the implication of her purity jeopardized would mean great trouble for her.

Thomas grinned before saying "or I can give what I want and get your best service. One would hate for a rumour about a temple only helping someone if they pay enough and their miracle girls are only normal virgin girls to spread wouldn't they especially since that's how most of their money is made." He didn't know if what he said would help out so he undone the cloth that hid the reason he was here.

The bald priest scowled at him. "How dare you speak blasphemy in such a sacred place. How dare you question the validity of our healers. Pay what you will, and see who you must, but you shan't be allowed through these doors again unless you can testify to the validity of the god given services we provide."

With that the bald priest held out his hand and waited for the donation.

Once Thomas paid the man he was allowed to enter and was free to select the healer he chose.

Thomas walked a bit standing next to the monk stopping before he got to the healers area saying "you know if next time I need in here to get healed I don't think you can stop me and I don't plan on doing what you expect either." He ignored what ever the monk had said after that knowing that if there was gold held in front of his nose then he wouldn't be refused. Thomas made his way to the woman he met before asking "are you going to run this time or will you heal me?"

Davina looked up to him a bit shocked at his words. "Please lower your voice" she said softly "and take a seat please."

Getting up she boiled some water and gathered some vials and some herbs and began to mix a compound. "If i had been discovered talking with a man, i could have been dispatched to the brothel. The purity of the healers is of the utmost importance here. I did not mean to offend you" she said lightly as she began to unwrap his throat.

"I will need you to lay back and rest your head upon my lap please. So i can properly attend to your wound."

Thomas done as he was told then said "I don't know why you would want to keep yesterday a secret if anything yesterday showed you resolve to remain pure so you can help people." He couldn't place it but there was something wrong about this temple more than just them making a profit off the people.

She sighed washing out his wound. "it is all a matter of perception, they will always see the worst part when it comes to a woman and her word means nothing. I am simply a servant here. I enjoy my work as a healer, being able to help those that need it. Even if it is a bit of smoke and mirrors."

Taking an herb concoction she smoothed it over his wound. "This will keep any infection at bay. But you must keep in on three days, and change the bandage twice a day. If you notice anything out of the ordinary you must return to me."

Wrapping a clean bandage over it her fingers lightly danced through his hair before she added. "You are done"

Thomas got up and said "thank you for patching me up." He left the temple feeling that even though she wouldn't admit it she was falling for him. The way she ran her fingers through his hair when she had him lay his head on her lap told him more than her words could do.

Davina although attracted to him. Didn't feel as though she was falling for him. For she had only seen him twice. Falling in love wasn't an option or actually even on her radar. Her life and purpose was here. She watched him leave and then cleaned up her area.

It was apparent that he knew the temple was a scam of sorts, but it did heal a lot of people. The head on the lap was a special benefit for those who paid to get to see one of the 'magical' healers. As half didn't really need healing, they simply wanted the caress and fantasy of being touched by a magical virgin.

Thomas could smell a faint smell as he walked out and he knew what it was somewhere there was a kingdom near by burning which ment the front of the war had moved again thus signalling that more than likely he was going to be called to war once again. He went home and gathered his things. He gathered his weapons placing them in a corner of his house knowing tomorrow that he had to get them sharpened. He hoped to see the healer again before he left.

Davina spent the rest of the day tending to the regulars as well as some actually ill people. When she had a spare moment, her thoughts would go back to Thomas' ruggidly handsome face. The way that he looked at her. It was more then the lustful glances she normally received. She found if she tried not to think of him, she would just think of him more.

The bell rang signalling the war was getting closer to them. That meant there would be more people that actually needed help. But there wasn't going to be a saving for all of them.

Thomas set out the next day early gathering items he needed and getting his weapons sharpened. He didn't know if he would see Davina again but if he did he had a dagger for her to keep incase the temple was attacked before he got back. He seen a familiar shape and to his surprise it was her he approached her saying "healer Davina I have a dagger for you to keep incase the temple is attacked or something happens."

As it would happen Davina was out collecting herbs when she ran into Thomas. "Thank you Thomas" she said lightly as she looked around to be sure they were alone.

Reaching into her cape she pulled out a small container of herbal solution she had used on his neck.

"Use this for your neck wound and please keep fresh bandages on it. Be safe, the war is getting closer. I must go now Thomas, before they come looking for me." She tucked the blade inside her cape.

"Thank you again for the dagger, i will keep it close i promise." With one last look at him she headed off back to the temple. Holding the dagger close to her heart.

Thomas thanked Davina for the solution before she left heading back to the temple before she got in trouble. He walked back to the black smith shop picking up his weapons taking them back to his house. He didn't know when he was going to be called out to battle but the way the air felt and smelled to him it would be soon. After a couple of minutes at his home he heard a knock on the door and when he opened the door he seen that there was a summons on the door requesting him to be at the castle.
