Today, for some strange reason, I cannot get my Corel program to work. The icon has disappeared and now I have this image instead.

When I click on saved Corel images, I get this message:
This application failed to start because CoreGUI.dll was not found. Re-installing the application may fix this program.

I cannot find the original disk that came with my computer.

Is there anything I can do?

If you're running Windows XP or later, you can try to find a system restore point prior to the file disappearing or becoming corrupted.

If that doesn't work and the missing file isn't in your recycle bin, then You're out of luck until you find the install disk.

How do I find that system restore point?

You don't want to know what's in my recycle bin. ;)
I can, however, tell you that the missing file is not there.

I don't want to be out of luck. :(

Send an email to Corel and ask them. I know you can download a trial version of paintshop, I did way back when I was waiting for my version to arrive, if you registered your paintshop they will have a record of you doing so and I am sure would be most happy to give you a link to download a full version.

If you happen to still have the CDkey you can download the trial version and input that to it I think that would work, or you can find paintshop X to download as a torrent, would take a few hours to download unless your using dial up.

I haven't a clue how to find the system restore points because I am still using Win98SE. :( If I had to find them, I'd start with the Help function on the Start menu and follow the directions there under "Restore" or "System Restore"

Once you download the trial version all you have to do is put the serial code back in. I've done this several times before, I can clarify with pretty much any program, it works. Trial. Serial code by email. Works like a full version. OpenCanvas, for a recent example example. A torrent would only be necessary if you were stealing the progam, because you'd be torrenting for the keygen. (which usually contain trojans, DON'T DO IT. I'm just warning you. Keygens are killer for viruses and try find the CD or serial code first, or even a friend with the program to borrow the install disk from, since you DO own it) Of course, unless you have the serial for the program recorded... heh. If you bought/registered it through email, search your inbox and see if the original message containing the program key is still there. (Well, you mentioned a CD, but it's a hope!)

I'd send you the file, but I'm running PSP9, unfortunately. =(

You were pretty close WH... in XP if you go to Start > Help and Support > and type in "System Restore" it will give you all the options to run. You can create a restore point or switch to safe mode to implement a previously created restore point. Of course if you have not had XP set up to create restore points automatically and periodically, then you are out of luck if the system is already damaged and there are no previous points to restore.

You're hanging on by a thread if you are still using Win98SE . . . Microsoft have stopped supporting it so you need to be VERY careful on the internet.

You have searched your entire hard drive for the missing file I guess? It shouldn't simply have disappeared. Pity you have lost the disk, I would look on Ebay perhaps. I too have V9, don't think the file would work for V10.

*edit*

If you can't fix Corel GIMP is supposed to be pretty good, open source free software. You can install an old version for pre XP windows. Even better change your whole PC to Linux . . .
