I am sure that other authors have found their material on other sites under a different name. I didn't think that I would ever run into the problem, well I just did.

What do I need to do to get my stories copyrighted?

well as Colleen Thomas recently discovered - see thread yesterday?

Depends where you are - what (c) is, and do you have the money to sue?

Poor man: Register mail it to self - NEVER open it, and get witnesses to sign for your work in package.

CHEAP: US library of Congress

Otherwise obtaining a copyright is not cheap - nor guarenteed :)

Some one told me the same thing about mailing it to yourself. Good Advice.

~A~

Does that apply to artwork also?

Internet slow - lol - your response didn't come up until I re-edite. REALLY take precautions - but as one lawyer said. It doesn't matter the copyright date sometimes - if its a big corp - they will find a WAY to make theirs sooner - depends on context really ;) Short story? Novel? Film or TV script :)

So nothing is really safe then? Thanks for the info

Thanks

Thanks for the advise Charley.

What got me is that all my work is stored here at home and it is not mailed out. This person basiclly copied it, and then resubmitted it on a different site under their name.

I guess some people just don't have any morals.

If you write to the website, you can almost always bully them into removing the story. Their profit margin is slim, and they want to hire a lawyer about as much as you do.

My personal opinion is that if you aren't selling the story for money, then how much time are you really going to spend worrying about where it can be found? Your time would be better spent consuming some form of alcoholic beverage.

I just read it and she did give some good advise. I wish I had read it before I jumped to conclusions. Getting mad is not going to do any good, and the best thing to do is to talk with the moderator of the site. Kindly explain to them what happened, and have they story dropped.

Personally, I want credit for everything I write, not other people stealing it and pinching the credit.
