I went to the bank this morning to check my account.

Being after business hours the bank is closed but you can use your card to get to the bank machines.

That I did only to find out all three machines inside ere out of order.

As I prepared to leave I eyed a car at the drive through bank machine so i decided to wait till they were finished and I would use that, it seemed to be working at least, and i did want my money.

10 minutes later the car finally left, I walked up to the machine, put in my card, commenced to do my business.

A cop car drove by as I was doing this.

The cop turned around came back and gave me a warning that I wasn't allowed to used thedrive through bank machine of foot, and gave me a written warning.

Don't these guys have a life or what.

what difference does it make whether i am on foot or in a car? I wasn't impeding service.

shaking head.

cause it's for motor vehicles and it's a safety issue.

People in automobiles aren't expecting pedestrians in a drive through. It's a perception issue. So for safety's sake pedestrians aren't allowed. Suck it up, sugahtodd.

Heck, here in Iowa, we have drive through Liquor stores.

Yep we got drive through liquor stores too..even drive through fast food (lol) but not banks......

Actually, unless there is a law in your district stating that it is illegal, cops have no jurisdiction over anything that occurs on private property unless they are called in.

If a company posts signs on the entrance to the drive through stating that pedestrians aren't allowed, then I am sure a friendly reminder by the cops wouldn't be a bad thing, but Cops extend their power on to people when it is not justified or even called for.

Saftey is a matter for the business proprietor to deal with.
Police overstep their boundries all of the time. Often it is just out of boredom, and that is no excuse to harass and disrupt the lives of people.

Next time, ask if there is a law, and if not, and no signs are posted otherwise, be sure to tell them to go do their real job, instead of harassing people to do what they think people should be doing.

In my town there is no law. If a bank doesn't want people walking up, they post a "No Pedestrians Allowed" sign before the drive up entrance and up by the building. Often times, here, you'll see people standing in wait afterhours, because banks will sometimes lock the doors to the ATM and make it so you can't get to the thing. People in their cars should never assume that there won't be pedestrians ANYWHERE! That is just being reckless and irresponsible.

driiiiiiiiiiiiiiive through, walk through.

hmmmmmmm:rolleyes:

Actually, we have two types of drive through banks.

My bank, for example, has four drive through lanes. Two are just ATMs situated so you can reach them from your car window. The other two have intercoms and pneumatic tubes so you can interact with a teller and deal with situations an ATM isn't programmed for.

Interestingly, my Daughter just recently changed banks, and her new bank doesn't use a traditional teller counter. It uses video intercoms and pneumatic tubes for all transactions. (they don't, however have drive up tellers at her new bank.)
