Yeeehaaa! :cattail:

This would be a sidearm carried by a vice cop from Tallahassee FL.

Most of your urban forces have gone to the glock 9mm. It's got a 9 shot magazine capacity, is light, concealable and the round, espeically the subsonic round, has plenty of knock down power. Be aware it has no visible safety, so there have been accidents with it.

A vice detective, might still be carrying the old reliable, a .38 smith & wesson revolver. These are signifiacntly more conselable, but with only five shots in the cylinder, it's mostly a back up weapon now.

Vice cops also will sometimes carry something more ostentious, particulacrly if they are working under cover. You want something flashy and "cool". .44. .357 mag and .50 dessert eagles fit this kind of bill.

All cops will have a 12 guage semi auto "trench" shotgun in their cruisers. This has a five shot unstopped magazine and is usually of the rack and slide variety, though many are moving to straight automatics now.

Hope that helps :)

Thought they used 9mm SIG-Sauers P228's and were updating to new SIG-Sauer P229 .40S&W's.

Ros still carries the clock and she's vice. Some of the urban comabat and gang task foce members are upgrading, but I wasn't aware of a general upgrade. Of course if you have specific knowledge of the tallahassee PD> I will gladly stand corected :)

Very good point. I was assuming the present. If your story is a period piece, it would be very different.

Present time. There are two guns in the story. One needs to have a safety and will have to be concealable and rather plain, for a vice detective who's gone underground after running afoul of dirty cops. The other one can be more ostentatious, it's being carried by a vice cop.

There is a job forum for 911.
They discussed upgrading a few years ago.
I shall have a look.
Back soon.

If the safety is a major concern, I believe many forces allow officers to purchace their own personal sidearm, in lieu of standard issue. This would be particularly true if your officer ever works under cover. The glock does have a safety, but it's located on the trigger so it's kinda useless, since it's "off" if you depress it and you have to depress it to pull the trigger.

If your officer is "old School" he might well carry a revolver.

There are several ways you could approach it. I would say the best is to have him work, at least part time undercover. In that instance, he wouldn't carry the PD standard issue for obvious reasons :)

If that's the case, a colt Commando or Python would be a decent option, with obvious safeties. If you want to out firty harry fdirty harry, a ruger rehawk is your gun or a .50 dessert eagle.

Concealable and plain? I'd go with a .38 snub nosed revolver. Probably a Smith & Wesson or remington. Both are what people call hold out weapons, that is small, concealble back ups.

For ostentatious, Probably a python or Commando. If you want robbin willians style Manly men doing manly things, go with the .50 dessert eagle.

If you want your man to realy know his weapons, go with the .38 snub and a .44 magnum automatic.

I think that works well. Does it have a safety?

Yes, back of the trigger guard, usually painted red. It's revolver. So it's a lot safer than an automatic to begin with. they come in silver tone and blued. Usually with wood grips, though some have plastic.

I thought it was weird the first time I saw it.
I shall leave Carson in your capable hands.

I wasn't aware any force had gone to the Sigs. Guns are a lot like computers I think, if you don't make an effort to stay on top of the, you're information becomes obsolete fast :)

Your info has been invaluable as always, Colly darling. :rose: I didn't even know what to Google.

Very glad I could be of help :)

Nice to occasionally be able to use some of the trivial stuff I have sotred in my head to good purpose :)

Pretty well covered. :)

Although, the Sig and S&W semi-autos are still very popular. Most police issue pistols carry a 15 round magazine. In many of the nothern states officers are opting for 10mm pistols in the winter to get more penetration through heavy clothing. Left up to me it would still be a Colt 1911A1 in .45ACP. :D

Also, police issue shotguns usually have an seven round extended tube magazine. With one in the chute that's an eight round capacity.

Thanks... I'm sort of overwhelmed by all the information (I don't deal well with research) and it's very helpful to have specifics I can read about.

There are other pictures in this series that go into great detail about his weapon but I believe decorum prohibits me posting them here.

oh holy mother of god, what a MAN! :catroar:
