Digital manipulation?

I think I'd be more concerned with the idea that the whole earth is dark!

You're presuming they created it from the visible light spectrum. Infrared would not be obscured by cloud cover as is visible light. And virtually all light sources emit some level of infrared.

Dark Continent

Do you notice how dark Africa is? It truly is the Dark Continent.
 
Yeah I got it in an email forward and they mentioned how dark africa was and how dark N.Korea was compared to S.Korea.
 
Did you notice how the US plains demonstrate the "survey grids" west of the Dallas/ Fort Worth- Minneapolis/St. Paul axis?
 
Yup thats cool.

Look at how bright India is compared to every other conutnry in that area.
