One of my favorite: City Hall Station, abandoned because so few used it. But oh, my, how beautiful is that! Can't you just see this in, say, the 1920's with the gents in their dapper suits, the ladies with their cloche hats, traveling through this station on their way to and from City Hall?

Awesome pictures in that article, thank you for sharing. I hear there are some abandoned mining towns in the Cascade mountains I need to take my camera to in the spring.

I feel the same way about abandoned airfields.
I once stood on the end of an old (WW2) runway one hot, still summers day.
I'll swear I could hear the Merlin engines.

Back in the late sixties my Dad took me out to an old WW2 airfield in the North of Oahu where his bomber squadron worked up before they left for the central pacific. It was some sort of amateur race track then, but I could imagine the B-24s lumbering up along the taxi way and roaring down the runway. I remember how the tarmac looked with beach sand blown over the edges. I tried to find it on google earth recently and it looks like someone turned the area into a golf course.
