Need info for a story (non-erotic): currently in U.S. High Schools/Jr. Highs...is cooking class still called "Home Economics" or something else? And do they still teach just cooking or other things as well?

Hey, I'm not in the Board of Education. Hell, I didn't even take any of those "family" classes.

eta: Ask Trom. He should know better than I do.

It's going to depend on the particular school district, and often the individual school.

My younger daughter took "culinary arts" in 11th grade, but she had to change schools for half a day to take that class because it was only offered at one school in the entire school district (a couple hundred schools last I knew, but the city and school district have both grown a lot since then.)

"Culinary Arts" in the Las Vegas School district is a "you'll need to know this to work in a buffet or restaurant at the casinos" kind of course.

I don't recall either of my daughters having a "home economics" type course offered. At least not one that involved actual hands-on cooking (or sewing) like a "classic" 50's-style Home-Ec class involved.
