Controversy at AAAS

Shit you want to hear about an HR department lacking humanity?

I managed the internal systems for a software company in Florida once. I got a request for a custom data querry against the HR database: They wanted the names of the employees ranked by how many insurance claims they'd made and how much. (The company was self-insured at the time).

Lo and behold, two weeks later we have layoffs and the only folks laid off were the top 20 users of insurance. One woman had a husband who'd been in a car accident...gone. One woman had a reaction to diabetes medication...gone. One guy had a coronary bypass...gone.

A number of us started sending out resumes after that little episode.

Did anyone send a copy of the request for query & results to the laid off employees? That could make their case for wrongful termination.

There is only one "r" in query. FWIW there is only one "e" as well.

Throb hasn't had a fucking job in years. He sounds just like LT, his compadre.

They're in the process of laying off a hundred people from one of the departments in our place. management have spent the last few days firing anyone with even a late mark against them.

This is quite common. It's just not done so blatantly most of the time. Businesses are not charities.
