I have a series in progress and intend to finish no matter how long it takes. I wrote the first three chapters under a previous username and have since taken a new username. Is it a big deal to post the new chapters under the new username or should I resubmit everything under the new username?

You'd need to cross post to both profiles that you are one and the same author. You'd still get some hassling, though, about story theft/stepping on toes from posters who didn't bother to read the profiles.

Why don't you finish it under the old name?

You could pull the original submissions and repost them under your new profile, including an author's note at the beginning explaining that the stories were originally under x username. Like sr71 said, a lot of readers won't bother to read your profile, but those who know the series will be alerted that you've changed names. That will lessen the accusations of story theft, but probably not entirely.

I just went through that very thing and wish I had stuck an author's note at the beginning of the first chapter. Caught a little grief from a commentor or two about "changing names and resubmitting a series" even though the original one was less than a third of the story and never completed until just recently.

I have a lengthy series that I pulled down over a year ago but still get email requests to put it back and continue the storyline. With 25+ chapters that have already been seen by many, I can only imagine the weeping, wailing, and gnashing of teeth that one will attract when I decide to bring it back!

Seems a good argument for finishing it in the original posting name.
