I wanted to vote for two!!! Great job DG. I especially liked that you put all of them together so we could "compare."

Really great pieces everyone!

With more than 10 entries a PM vote might have to be the way, as splitting the pics into threads might not work as only some will vote on one thread and ignore the other.

Otherwise the quality of the posts is absolutely amazing, i found it very hard to vote on this one.

I actually started out with a exhibitionist/voyeur theme and it kind of ended up something totally different. Funny how that happens sometimes huh?

Damn you guys are fast. Didn't you end the last contest just days ago?

suggestion and offer

I love the thumbnail idea in principle, but combined with the way the actual images are posted, as a risk manager and human factors researcher, I have to smile. I really don't like the posting of entries as files that have to not just be opened individually to be viewed, but then also in some cases further enlarged (which requires awareness of IE's conservation defaults and the willingness to mouse over the opened file for the further enlarge arrow box) to be seen in the largest format allowed by the board.

Posting files means they have to actually be opened to be viewed. I much prefer the visual display we had with the last contest. I could scroll easily viewing all of the offerings at the same time, and didn't have to open individual windows and the further up the image sizes to see them properly. Human factors research suggests very strongly that most viewers will not open all of the files. In a blind list longer than 6, the 1st 3 and last 2 will have the advantage. With the thumbnail page, this tendency is likely to be amplified, the thumb view will result in a preliminary vote followed by selective viewing based on the initial appeal of a vastly reduced image.

I recommend we proscribe a maximum height width dimension (in keeping with monitor sizes, say maybe 600 X 700) and ask participants to submit in either png or jpg. I will volunteer my server as a home so that images can be posted immediately visible. Those of us with server space should submit a hotlinkable file, (the bandwidth taken up here is negligable ... Take my word for it.) those without can use mine.

It's just a suggestion. I feel guilty saying any of this. I don't mean to be critical of effort and ingenuity at all. In the absence of access to a server DG did an exemplary job. In fact he worked much harder than he should have had to downsizing files so they conformed to forum limits. The thing is, when image quality has to be reduced along with physical dimensions, what gets uploaded as a file here doesn't always look like what the artist submitted. jpg artifact alone, in medium or less quality creates grain where I spent huge amounts of time trying to eliminate it.

Using the hotlink picture post icon means the images get to stay the way the artist submits them. Setting max image dimension guidelines (rather than file size) helps participants prepare their images and use their own eyes to downsize and if necessary filter and enhance.

Just my thoughts .... please take them in the spirit of cooperation.

good luck y'all.

I voted. Wish I could have had three or four votes.

Have to say

I think it is wrong to post 2 pics/art and everyone else's are just links....draws attention to the posted pics, and not the ones unposted (just as I disagree with posting Lit names, or any names, in these contests.)

Just my .02 on the voting and submissions :catroar:

BTW...I did not enter this one but I did vote....without knowing who the artist was :cathappy:

sheesh?

I agree.

Post one way and let the chips fall as they may. Fix it next time, if everyone agrees a fix is necessary. BUT ONLY if every one (or the majority) agree's a fix is needed.

I'm very sorry for throwing the cog in the wheel this time.

Very, very, very sorry

I apologize profusely! I intended no harm.

I'll stay out of all of it from now on.

I meant my offer of server space so all entries could be posted raw sincerely. If one image goes up raw, they all do. Next time we agree on rules for size and hotlink submissioon.

Great work everyone, and as others have said, a very very hard choice, but in the end, my aesthetic spirit had to go for the stairs/window/cowbebs combination. It really drew me in.

Just one point, I am sincerely of the opinion that there should be no identification of artist/entry until after the final voting. A blind viewing as it were. That way, the choices will truly be 'on merit'.

Well... that was my first impulse...BUT...Patty had a good point about image piracey. SO...it's a tuff one. So if people signe dtheir work I left it on, rather than remove or obscure
. I suppose we could put some "blanket" © (Literotica...or somethin')...? initially then at the end of the contest.... switch image copyrights and sigs to specific owners...? thoughts?

Thoughts:
A) Digital image piracy cannot be prevented. At 'best' it can be punished. Watermarking just slows it down, requires the theives to have a little more skill. Should actual issues of value arise, having the source material, proof of priority and a body of similar work are more important than a copyright notice. Copyright REGISTRATION is valuable because it establishes priority, not because of the mark on the work, which is not required.
B) The purposes of copyright control are twofold: 1) to assure compensation for commercially viable work; 2) to 'control use' of the work. The first is largely irrelevant in the current context. The second has a rather more limited meaning than many people assume. If you publish your work, you can't keep people from hanging it in the kitchen or wiping their ass with it. The 'control' in question has to do with miss-attribution (falsely claiming authorship, or failing to credit authorship), and republication- that is, creating more copies for commercial use or in a way that could reasonably be seen to interfere with the author/copyright holder's legitimate use. Again, none of this can be gauranteed proactively, it can only be enforced (punished) after the fact.
People who are convinced that their work has commercial value, or who are concerned about it showing up on someone else's website, should probably refrain from posting to ANY web site- or spend a lot of time searching out violators.

In respect to these contests, it seems to me that copyright notices are pretty superfluous, but, with the stakes as low as they are in the contests themselves, there's little reason to be concerned about favoritism anyway. After all, who really cares who wins the bloody things? If people are after that kind of ego boost they should enter some legitimate juried art competitions- there are plenty around.
