Contacts...

i've heard lots of bad things about Lasik. I guess it turned out alright for you?

It's really no different than getting a tooth pulled, with respect to the danger. I actually went in knowing that I fell in the 2% - 5% that would need to have follow up surgery (my cornea was shaped all kinds of fucked). Surgery was a year ago, both eyes 20/20 (actually, one is closer to 20/15).

However, I'll also give the caveat that the doctor that did the work cost $4,000 and was on the clinical trials board for the FDA that helped get it approved in the US.

I wasn't to keen on letting one of those "both eyes for $999" guys get his hot shiny light on my baby grey-greens!

Used to wear contacts....but they were a killer on my eyes, so I went back to glasses again.

I've worn extended wear for the past ten years and I love them. I wear them for a week, take them out overnight to clean and then wear for another week. I wear the disposables, as long as they're cleaned properly one pair is good for at least a month (or longer).

I'm so used to my contacts that when I wake up those mornings without them in it takes me a few minutes to remember the glasses.

contacts all the way!

I wear disposables, so cleaning isn't such a major issue. Hell, with multipurpose solution, complete piece of cake.

Sucess depends a lot on your eyecare professional. Handing you lenses and telling you, "Let me know when one of these is good for you" is NOT quality care.

wore glasses since i was 7

then a year and a half ago, i had the laser corrective surgery done...

How was that? I want to do it, but I want to know details from a person who's gotten it rather than a Doctor.

Oh and I wear contacts. Glasses give me pounding headaches.

I wish I had my contacts back, I hate wearing my glasses.

I"d love to get the surgery done though but I cant aford it :(

I wore contacts for 10 years, then switched to glasses. Due to some weird cornea problems, I am not a candidate for Lasik, at least at the present. My therapist had it done & really likes the results. My fiancee's sister in law had it done & has non stop problems with her eyes. I think it really depends on the doctor.

I love my contacts, but mine are colored and not for correcting my vision. I have several colors and wear them depending on my moods. But they are very comfortable and I don't even know they're in most of the time.

I've had contacts for almost 30 years. Hard ones for 10, and gas permeable since then. Someday I may have the surgery, but for now contacts are fine. Glasses generally on the weekends when I'm lazy.

i've had them since i was 14.. i havent had a problem with them.. and up until the last year, i wore mine for at least a week before i took them out for a night and cleaned them. i havent had a problem with them yet and my eye doctor says that i'm still one of the perfect candidates for the corrective surgery if i ever want to have it done

Do you have them? Are they really as horrible as they seem?

I have a lot, too many really...especially on MSN. They're not that horrible usually although some have new names so when they add me I never quite know who they are.

20/20:p

Contacts when working, glasses when home. I used to have a problem with headaches and glasses, but since I've found an ultra-light frame and lenses, I can hardly tell I have them on.

I have worn contacts since I was 11, ummm...that's 30 years now :). I still wear the hard contacts, as I am way to lazy to have to be careful with worries of tearing them, etc.

I wear my contacts every day. I take them out at night to soak, but don't have to go through the whole rubbing thing. Mine are the kind you use for a month then throw away.

If contacts irritate your eyes, try another brand. I tried 2 before finding a comfortable kind. The only time they bother me is when I sleep all night in them.

Been wearing contacts since age 10. Glasses when I don't feel like puttin in the ole "eye balls" and when I am really tired and my eyes need a break from the contacts.

I tend to take them out and give my eyes a "rest", i.e. wear glasses and let my eyes get more oxygen to them.

I wear soft contacts and could not imagine having to wear hard ones or gas permeable ones, as I have heard some stories.

My first pair of contacts were hard. I used to gross out my friends popping them out of my eyes.

Soft contacts are a hell of alot easier to put in and out, and they put less strain on my eyes.

Glasses still give me pounding headaches, and I have very lightweight frames and lenses My eyes just don't like em.

You know it still kinda freaks em out when I take mine out today. They are like "How can you do that?"

Wore glasses since about 1st grade. Then senior year in high school I got rigid gas permeables. I liked them since it made my vision more crisp then soft contacts would have. Plus they were easier to clean than softs---just rub them with solution and once in a while soak them in cleaner.
I had laser eye surgery but not LASIK about 3 years ago. I was sore for a few days but I now have 20/20 and 20/25. The only problem I have is with the night vision. I see halos around lights and my eyes are really slow when adjusting from dark to light or vice versa. A lot of people have probs with night vision after laser eye surgery though.
I think contacts are good if you are willing to go through the adjustment time it takes to get used to them and you're also willing to put in those few minutes a day cleaning and prepping them (unless you get ones you throw out).

The Truly Interesting Question Is.....

How long did it take you to put your contacts in the first time!!

Mine was 40 minutes.

But they changed my life. My uncorrected vision is poor, umm, really poor. The glasses were uncomfortable and inconvenient. Easily damaged during sports. Sliding down the nose with the least provocation. And shall we mention periphereal vision??

With contacts I immediately had an entirely different outlook on life. Periphereal vision! Comfort even during long days. Not an issue during any sports except those involving a lot of dust or swimming.

I wear soft contacts. My eyes are very sensitive. Thus I wear extended wear disposable contacts, clean them nightly, enzyme them weekly and throw them away quarterly. I have dry eyes and absolutely cannot keep the contacts in when I sleep. Windy days tend to dry my eyes and require eye drops a couple of times during the day. I consider the 'bother' of handling my contacts twice a day for a total effort of less than 10 minutes to be well worth the price for how they've changed my life.

I'm seriously considering the Lasik surgery. Waiting until some long-term results are in about the stability of this procedure. I would sure love to have clear vision 24/7 but am quite happy having it only during my waking hours - after I've put in the eyeballs.
