Ok, so here we go

Just read the post below (It’s probably moved now) and I’ve decided to post a decent ad (or at least try).

Hi, my names Richard (Hence the Dicken in my User name) from Oxford, England (Hence the UK). I am a graduate from university and 22 years old. I would describe myself as moderately unfit at the moment, but I am working on it. I have longish brown hair, for reasons to be discussed later.

I would describe my self as part nerd, part geek and part anorak. My interests lie in fantasy and science fiction, and my profession in engineering. My main two passions these days are music and writing, though I build the occasional thing as well.

If you haven’t guessed, I like heavy metal (hence the hair), but I also like English folk music, Power metal and progressive rock. When I am not seeing music live, I work on my guitar, though I am but a learner.

I read a lot. Things like Discworld and Sword of Truth by Terry Goodkind. I have never done D and D, though I would never pass over an opportunity. I am writing my book, which is 30’000 words and counting.

OK, that me. I am looking for friends and contacts. This is not, and I repeat, not a quick cyber offer. I am looking to build up some friendships, be they online or other wise. Perhaps they may lead to other things, perhaps not. The important thing is staying sociable.

The types of people I like are fun and intelligent with similar, but not identical interests. I’m not very extreme in anything, so keep that in mind. I am straight, but that don’t mean I would ignore males, but that path is friends only.

So there we have it, my post. Personal messages are always welcome, as are E-mails or Yahoo messages.

Oh and if I made any Spelling or Grammatical errors, feel free to PM me and let me know.

Richard

Welcome Richard. :) Us anoraks have to stick together. So, do you ever go to sci-fi cons in the UK? This was a thoughtful post BTW.

Hi Ivy

No I don’t go to conventions as yet. The reason is mainly down to lack of a car, not a problem now. That’s something I’ll have to consider. What science fiction are you into?

Thanks for posting

I admit to being a Trek fan. Hubby introduced me to Dr. Who and Blake's 7 both of which I love. Also, the new Battlestar Galactica, Torchwood. We watched Bladerunner again the other day and I have to say I love how gritty that still seems after all these years. And of course Serenity, which most fans are still pissed off was cancelled. That's just for a start.

I'm new to "con culture" but I love it as I can be as geeky as I want to be. I'm more of a fan though rather than a computer guru like hubby.

Hi Ivy

I’d better not turn this into a chat thread lest it be shoved somewhere else. However I do like Star wars (expanded universe), Stargate, Red Dwarf and the new Dr Who. Seen the Serenity film, but not the firefly series, looks good though.

I think there is a subtle difference between the science fiction, fantasy and gamer enthusiast. I think it’s possible to be a bit of all three. Personally that’s where I sit.

Thanks again

Richard

P.S: I would also like to thank all those who have looked at the post. Makes me want to continue onwards…

Nice post indeed Mr. richard Constant Posting...

Most males write,

m/32 from UK want to chat tonight.

hehehe.

Hard to find intelligent males like you, posting nice & gentle ads.

sorry I'm a male, and i'm damn sure you're not here to meet male friends,

hope you find female friends youwant.

Bye.

Terry Pratchet rocks! Just can't stop getting the Discworld series.

Genesis also rock - but that's just me showing my age!

More Revelations

There is nothing wrong with Genesis.

I like my progressive rock, be it Peter Gabriel era Genesis, Jethro Tull (a personal favourite), or more modem acts like Coheed and Cambria and Dream Theatre.

Just to add a few more names in to the mix. Iron Maiden, Blind Guardian, Dragonforce, Sonata Artica, Nile. That sort of crowd.

Oh and I’m re-reading Discworld. Currently on Wyrd Sisters. And Stephen King. Decided its time to read 1984.

Richard

P.S: ‘Constant Posting’ is a parody of ‘Constant Motion’, a track on Dream theatres new album. It’s what I was listing to when I wrote the original post.

The music I know nothing about, but I do like reading fantasy/sci fi. Especially Anne McCaffery, Piers Anthony, and the like.

Congratulations on graduating!

Hi again all.

Seams there are a whole bunch of you guys and gals out there who like science fiction, and to a lesser extent, heavy metal. I had the feeling there were more people like myself.

Makes me smile.

Fantasy book name drop

OK here are a few of my favourite books at the moment:

Sword of Truth Series, Discworld, Harry Potter, Ronan the Barbarian (yes Ronan), The Hitchhikers guide to the Galaxy, Orcs, Post Film Star Wars books, Eragon (did not like the film though), The Red Dwarf books, Lord of the Rings and The chronicles of Narnia . Just a few names of books I like.

Oh, and I am about to try 1984.

Richard

Not too much into science fiction but one of the 1st concerts I ever went to was Rainbow (fuck am I showing my age now).

Have to say, I haven’t had many replies as yet. Thanks to those who have posted and messaged me.

Is their anything else people would like to know?

Richard

Okay, so this is just a bump. nothing new here.

Really...

Oh all right. I just Discovered the Divine Comedy. Epic Show tune rock..

Now strange you say that. A frend of mine recomended rush, just have not got around to looking yet.

I'd consider Rush the most consistent band, ever. I like all of their periods, even their synth heavy period in the mid to late 80s. they just released a new album a couple of months ago and it's amazing how a band that's been around for over 30 years can still put out quality music.

Ta very much

All this music talk is good, but this is still a post.

A big thankyou to the people who have replied and those who have looked at the post. Still, any more replies would be great.
