People tagged as conservative are not conserving anything: not coral reefs, not the national infrastructure, not the wide and varied cultures of the population. Perhaps "corporatist" is more accurate.

Conservatism can have various meanings. Since the end of Teddy Roosevelt's administration the conservatism of the Republican Party has amounted to little beyond advancing the economic interests of the best paid and most wealthy ten percent of the country.
