Ok i ned some advice, any one know how to plug 2 computers into one line? basicly one will be online when the other is off and i don't want to have to get under this desk to keep switching the cable between them.

Maybe I'm missing something but if you only want one puter on at a time and your on dial up you can just get a "Y" adapter for your phone line.
Plug them both in both puters.....

Is this a phone line or broadband? If it's a phone line the cheapest solution I can think of is to go to Radio Shack and get a 2 to 1 or 3 to 1 adapter. It allows you to plug multiple cords in to it, it then plugs in to the socket.

The better solution though is to set up a home network, can be done these days for $90-$110 with some of the starter kits. Once you have the computers networked use sharing software. Some Windows versions have it some don't, if not you can find software on the internet. This site may help explain: http://www.zdnet.com/pcmag/pctech/content/18/15/tu1815.001.html

ahh thats where the problem comes in, we have one, but there is a fax machine in it, so it seems the 3-way is the way to go

yep that it does

Have you tried plugging the fax machine in to one of the pass through ports on one of the modems? Most modems I know have two connections, jack and phone. Jack goes to the wall. Phone is a pass through, it allows you to plug another device in so it can be used. If you try this, make sure the computer you hook up to does not have any fax software active or the computer will try to answer the call.

If it's just a temporary situation, using the phone jack on one of the computer's modems is the simplest and cheapest. Just plug the new computer into the existing setup's computer modem.

If there is a fax machine on the same line, I doubt that there is any host or fax software on the computer that would conflict with it. Check the start menu of the computer you're adding for Quicklink, WinFax, Rapidcomm, or other similar program -- most fax or host programs have "fax," "link," or "comm" in their name.

You may want a more permenent solution. You can use the ICS (internet connection sharing, no additional software needed if you use win2k). All your computers can share one internet connection. You can go to http://www.practicallynetworked.com/ for more networking guide.
