Manchester United played Chelsea in Moscow tonight in the final of the European Cup.

At full time both teams had scored 1. After another session of extra time there were no more goals.

After the penalty shoot-out they were still equal.

Then Manchester United saved a penalty shot to win.

A very close match that was entertaining to watch.

YEEEEESSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSSS!

The match killed me, it did. I was soooooo nervous, my heart, oh my poor heart.

Luckily my neighbour is a United fan so I don't think I'll have disturbed him toooo much when I celebrated :D

Yay!!!

Congratulations, EL! I know this meant so much to you!

Good game. Had drama, tactics, spectacle, artistry, heroes, villains and at least one decent brawl.

Too bad someone couldn't shove a ball in during extra time. Penalties suck.

Party on, EL :)

Penalties suck big nasty ass donkey balls.

I wish Tevez had've put his in actually, right back at the beginning there but the easy or the hard way all that matters is we won :D

Congrats to EL and all the Man U fans who may read this!

Damn. Missed it. Congrats Man U fans!

Excellent! It's on ESPN2HD. Picked it up at 88 minutes in.

A true championship match.

Now, Man U has to sell more stuff to fans to pay down the HUGE debt.

Ah -- you make it sound so simple. What about that Chelsea shot off the crossbar in extra time? What about the fact that MU was trailing in the penalty kick phase, right out to the very last shot in the round, and the Chelsea captain slipped on the wet turf and missed the goal completely?

Not that I'm a Chelsea fan. I live in the States and barely follow English soccer (yeah, I know, it's football to you). But Manchester United was definitely at death's door a couple of times. They fact that they came out on top is quite astonishing.

Well done! :D

What are you on about? This is a celebration thread, so celebrate or make another thread, 'k? Thank you ! :D

The Joy of football. It was close, but for all the Chelsea maybe goals, United had them too. Tevez's nearly touch, Tevez and Carrick both denied by Chech,
John Terry's amazing header that saved Giggsy's goal from going in...I think that for the second half and extra time both teams were pretty much equal. United odminated the first half, and on weighing it up I think you'd just edge it United's way.

Plus, as Fergie said, if they won it last night it'd be a little bit fate.

The Munich air disaster was 50 years ago, this is a fitting tribute to those poor souls who lost their lives coming back form a United European cup game.

I'm so proud of my lads.

And, 'cos I'm in a waffling mood, I'll continue. :p

As Ryan Giggs stepped up to the penalty spot I was os nervous. I was whispering aloud
"Please go in pleasee go in please go in."

My Six year old, allowed to stay up on such a special occasion just said to me,
"Calm down,Mummy, he's going to score, I know."
So we bantered back and forth and Bam, he scored -yessss!
"I told you he was going to score," She said Smugly.
"Yeah and the blue guy who comes on next will miss won't he."
"Yeah," She grinned.
"Yeah, it'll sail high into the sky."
"Yeah, no where near the goal." She smiled.

Annelka stepped up and Van Der Sar Saved it. I went wild, screamed, kissed the husband, kissed the daughter and she said,
"I knew they would win, Mummy. I saw this already this morning."

*laughs*

Congratulations to Man U and all their fans. I think a lot of people were peeing their pants:) And Chelsea were definitely a little unlucky!

I was chewing my arm off, pretty literally in fact. *L*

And the thing is, Penalties do have a whole massive dose of luck to them but I do believe United deserved the victory.

 Does lil victory dance

*dances with ya*

I know. But in this case it was a bit like basketball, the last few minutes IS the game. It was fun. I knew who was going to win and I was still nervous.

Oh yeah. It was tense, oh, so tense. Then that save and they all rushed forward-poor Ronaldo dropping to the floor with the emotion of it...I'll never forget that moment and that feeling.

Renaldo was thanking his God over and over and over. ;)
