On the 15th of every month (or thereabouts), we tally up the votes from stories submitted during the previous month. The story in each category with the best voting score compared to all other stories submitted that month is automatically eligible for the 2007 Literotica Author Awards voting.

At the end of the year, we will have 12 nominees in each category. The 4 stories in each category with the best voting scores at the end of the year will go on to the final voting. One will be selected in each category as the top story for 2007.

Congratulations to the authors below, whose stories were ranked top in their category for the month. These are December's eligible works.

I seriously question the nomination of "Boss Lady" in the TS & CD category. I don't know what its score was as of January 15, or how many votes it had, but the score is currently 4.48. My story in that category, "Angel 6" was a contender in the Winter Holiday Contest, and had an average score of over 4.80. The score now stands at 4.75, with 32 votes. At this time, this is the highest ranked story for that category for that month.

If I'm not mistaken, stories that made the 50 vote bar or surpassed it are considered first. It's only if no stories pass that 50 vote mark that stories with lower vote counts are considered.

Could very well be that the nominated story made that vote bar, and may be the only one that did for the month.

That is possible, but there would be no way for me or you to find out. Only the top 500 stories are listed and include the score and number of votes, and "Boss Lady" does not rank that high. The author, Stephanie Seymour, has one story in the top 500, and it was posted in September 2007 and has 44 votes and is ranked #401. This would lead me to believe she is not a steady and popular contributor of stories to this genre, so I doubt if the nominated story had as many as 50 votes by January 15 either. I have ten stories there, by the way, but only three of them have as many as 50 votes. It is not a very popular category.

They should maybe lower the thresholds for some of the less popular categories. I was surprised to see my Wrapdance get the horror nomination as it only has around 35 votes. I guess no other horror stories made it over the threshold for December.

If you lower the thresholds then you get odd stuff happening like a 4.94 story with 26 votes beating a 4.93 story with 126 votes. My gut inclination is that the second story is probably the more deserving in this case but that's also a dangerous argument as you could then move on and argue a 4.0 story with 1126 votes is more deserving, which I'm less convinced on.

The new voting system seems to be generating more votes, so maybe this will become less of a problem.

I think the way the thresholds work is about as good as we can hope for. It's not a perfect system, but what is? If there are no 50 vote stories, stories with 25 votes or more are considered, if none then 10 votes or more, if not any then any vote.
A story with a score of 4.90 and 10 votes is far more open to malicious tinkering than one with 100 votes. It's the nature of the beast.

I have no problems with the idea of threshholds. The way it used to work and, I think still does, is to nominate the story, having at least 50 votes, with the highest average score. as of the 15th of the followng month. If no story has 50 votes, then the highest ranked story having at least 25 votes. The next threshhold is ten, and if no story has that many votes, there is no nominee.

I don't know how many votes "Boss Lady" had as of Jan. 15, 2008, or what the score was. The last time I looked, its score was 4.48. For reasons given earlier, I doubt that it had as many as 50 votes.

I do know that "Angel 6" was an entry in the Winter Holiday Contest and had over 25 votes and an average score of over 4.80 as of the end of that contest, although it did not finish in the money. I thought it should have, but that's another story. I don't know what its average score was as of Jan. 15, but I am reasonably sure that it was higher than the score of "Boss Lady".
