It was just on the news here in the UK - Mayor Giuliani is now an Honorary Knight of the British Empire, for his recent efforts :)

Fighting a nightmare with a Knight Mayor!! (Sorry, couldn't resist the chance of a bad pun) Also the chiefs of the Fire & Police departments are getting C.B.E's, in recognition of their bravery.

Well done you Yanks :)

Congrats Rudy!!!! Now when he leaves office on 1/1/02, he'll have all those roundtable meetings to go to, to fill his time.

They still have those, don't they? ;)

I'll thank you to use his proper title please.....Sir Rudolf Giuliani CBE, thank you very much.

Well done that man.

If not, we'll start having them again, in full armour, just for Rudy, the Fire Chief and the Police Chief :)

Ok....well then 3 cheers for Sir Rudy................

We'll see what time will bring I would like to see him run for Prez.
at the very very least the gov. possition..........

I liked that dude for years before this ever happened.....................

Not to belabour the point -

But Giuliani's a fucking psycho. He just wrecked our continuing and very messed up mayoral election with his illegal demands to be kept in office despite the term limits he used to favor. And I never got around to explaining that his new command bunker on the 20th floor of No. 7, World Trade Center - which he insisted on building and renting from a key political supporter in spite of citywide protests that the WTC was very unsafe after having been bombed once - packed a huge tank of 7,000 gallons of fuel for emergency generators. Not only was his command post evacuated at 9:03am on Sept. 11, but there's a lot of talk that his fuel depot caught fire and destroyed this 58 story building, so probably his political pal will sue the city over it....

Please take him to the UK and keep him there. He loves flattery and power, and you guys are definitely on the right track. The Brit tabloids will love a guy who dumps his wife on national TV without telling her first! And lectures artists about morality....

I'm glad that someone else doesn't see him as a saint. I really thought he was great until I realized that he does not support most city workers. I'm still waiting for my raise... and my contract...

Actually since he is not a Citizen of the UK he cannot use the title SIR.

HE is entitled to use the initials KBE after his name(What ever that is worth)

Sir Bob Geldof (sp) isn't actually a Brit either but we still call him Sir Bob

He did his job.

I have to wonder about the significance in this modern day of being knighted. Is there a particular character trait where one deserves to be bestowed such an honor?

I mean look at some of the more modern people who have been knighted or considered for knighthood?

Mick Jagger?
Sean Connery?
Sidney Poitier?
Elizabeth Taylor (made a Dame)?
Michael Caine?

(I don't have time to research the rest)

I think I have grossly romanticized the title throughout my life. I thought it meant someone who went above and beyond mere men. They are loyal, trustworthy, honorable, always willing to help their fellow man and who carry out great and heroic deeds...a person who always hold up the principles of the guild no matter the public opinion.

There are some great men out there that truly warrant this honor I am very sure--but the Mayor is doing what he is paid to do.

Ahhhh, so much for the fairytale. :(

All those you mentioned wre knighted for services to the field of entertainment some times a boost to morale can be just as important as anything else and although the mayor is paid to do his job no one is paid enough to deal with the likes of 9/11/01 and imagine how much worse it would be now if the guy wasn't doing such a bang up job

When they say UK (And I could be wrong) they mean a citizen in the Comonwealth.. A Canadian could become a knight and use the title SIR.

Bob title is honorary and and not a real knightood

Actually anybody who isn't a UK citizen shouldn't be called Sir they should be as in the case of Bob Geldof called Bob Gedof CBE, but he gets called Sir cause we like him, but anybody who is awarded the CBE is automatically a Sir the minute they become a UK citizen

Don't get me wrong, I think that Mayor Giuliani is doing a great job. BUT...He's also not acting alone. He's got advisors, aids, speech writers...and a political agenda. He's a public servant.

I'm idealistic perhaps, but I think it should be based on a lifetime of doing a "bang up job." I may not have a very popular opinion, but it's how I feel and I can't help it.

They gave it to him cause although he may have done just an "OK" job the rest of the time when the shit hit the fan or in this case the aeroplane hit the WTC he stepped up and grasped the nettle and is doing a great job
