Congratulations Annie!

Holy schmoley! Annie you rock, you really do. You have a willingness to stick with things and learn that is an example for us all (like erm me, for sure). This is really impressive.

And now that you have all these poems, your next steps are to think about how you might organize them into a chapbook and get em published. (Well if you want. But you could: you certainly have the talent for it!)

Congratulations, Annie

Of Survivor poetry.

Excellent job. And thanks for helping me with a subject for my round two clerihew. ;)

Congratulations !
I like Pushkine's response, too.

If I'm lucky I'll finish before the contest is over

Gosh thankyou guys I never expected this! Eve recently commented on one of my poems that I'm a changed poet over the last year and I reckon this has a lot to do with it, making me knuckle down and give my brain a workout. I couldn't have done it without you guys (and Lauren) don't ever forget that. I'm thinking that the next bit will actually be harder without the Triggers (much as I have cursed some of them!) got to think up my own subjects now!
Which Clerihew? what did I do? I've looked on your scorecard and can't see one. Please tell I hate puzzles too!

Hey Annie!

Hell yes, I second and resound the congrats!

You have accomplished a super thing with this. I admire you more than you can know, especially seeing your dedication and how you just whipped out some of those form poems which send me screaming in to my poetic closet.

Keep up the great work! You have come so far and it really bugs me that you call yourself a "dumb blonde"." Anyone with half a brain knows hair color hasn't a thing to do with intelligence, you have proven that. ( I sort of get the feeling you are teasing when you said that, lol, I hope so anyway.)

hugs and smoochies from all of us-

PS, Ange has a point, get your work together and start submitting. I just know there are places that would gobble up your work and feel privileged to do so.

Thankyou oh and that reminds me ermmmmm I don't actually know what a chapbook is!!

A chapbook is a smaller version of a book of poetry. As far as I know...smaller than a large collection of poems might be. I just bet that didn't help at all

I'm adding my - belated - congrats too Annie , like EO I'm not sure I'll finish #1 let alone tackle a whole new round.

Well yes and no I wouldn't know who to approach for such a thing

Thanks Tess I've just enjoyed doing it

Contests...

A little link to start you on your way. Some are free, some are based in the UK and thankfully, some don't have reading fees attached.

You may need to remove your lit submissions before sending in your poems. It's very unfortunate, but, I've found that if you copy the entire lit page, including comments, into MSWord and save it, then all the links are preserved in the document. That way you can still refer back to the originals if you wind up changing them for an editor.

Have fun sending stuff out Annie. You have a strong voice and should be confident in sharing it with the whole world, not just the community here.

I'm pretty sure I've read every one of your submissions for the contest, sometimes by default, but mostly because I spot your name and want to read what you've written. I can't imagine going through the process and accomplishing what you have, so congratulations and I hope you do some non-survivor poetry soon. I have an epigram just for you on this occasion:

You were a girl
with repenter curls...
Now you're the pearl
of the party!

I wish I could say I wrote it for you on the spot, but it's a pretty old one.

One super thing about posting here as a "beginner" is that you learn to accept rejection in small amounts so it doesn't hurt so much when the big guys do it.

Now, I am not saying you will experience rejection, I am just saying that you are ready for it should it occur.

Champ gave you some good links to start with, go for it!! and I won't be surprised when you pop in here and tell us you have such and such accepted at so and so.

One thing to do is read over the journal before you submit so you don't choose wrongly, lol. I once sent a flowery piece to a Goth journal and didn't really know what I was doing and they sent me back a pic of a little hearse and just said, "sorry."

Only place I ever had that was mean was from Maine and now I have blocked the name internally. I hope I dont accidentally submit there again :D

best of luck!! you have the skills

Thanks all but well I admit it's kind of scary plus I don't have MSWord (well I don't think so lol) but I shouldn't like taking down my poems at all. I will look into it though

There are a few group sites and storage places online... I can't remember what they call the site msn moved to but their pages open with all the links and formatting intact as well. As long as you stop in and keep your account open periodically, then you have a relatively secure online storage account with all of your comments in place. Maybe your browser will allow you to send webpages to your email addy. How you would store them after that, I don't know. That's why I use hotmail and the like.

I did make a start of printing everything off because for the most part this is the only place I have any record of them

Get an external drive as back-up too, Annie. I learnt the hard way, I was burning back-up discs but often forgot. Now the ex-disc does it automatically.

- I don't see why you'd need to remove from lit.
- I'd be inclined to save entire page, w/links for self, and the text for submission.
- If you don't have MS Word, you can download OpenOffice for free. Be sure and save in .doc format, rather than .sxf, or whatever the OO default is called - most won't be able to read it.
- I agree on a backup external drive. Quite cheap these days, and reliable. A lot faster and easier than burning CDs/DVDs. By the way, if your source disk has some problems, you should use XCOPY from a DOS window so it keeps on going. Seems to work better than either Windows copy or a dual boot linux cp.
- last but not least, good luck and have fun:)

Oh good grief now you're getting complicated I will ask my stepson (all 6ft 4 of him!) to tell about things like that

some publishers won't even begin to think about accepting pre-published work

it's also important to check on 'cached' pages. you might remove a poem where it's been published here, but when it's goggled, cached pages from up to three months back or more might still show up on searches.

Now I'm going to read some of those finished poems of yours, Annie :D

Oh heck! Do you happen to know about any English places to submit? I've just sent you a message about Survivor Immunities

are you looking to submit individual pieces for publication in magazines/newspapers/anthologies or on-line zines, or are you looking to submit a completed set of work?

If it's the first, I'll send you some addresses later today but they're easy enough to google under poetry publishers and going from there.

If it's the latter, then I'm still looking my end too - I found a place (an agency with in-house vertical publishing - lol, that sounds stupid, in other words they are a part of the same group and directly refer stuff they like upwards to their publishing house) but have received all kinds of dire warnings about them and their previous record for duping the unsuspecting. So I'm not sure what to do about them Their mails seem so professional and in-depth, but they sound like the same people who've courtcases outstanding in Florida and a lot of betrayed writers in their wake. :(
