The rivalry between Ridgemont Academy and Calvary Academy was as strong as ever. Though Ridgemont had its own rivalries within its own school, the one between Calvary and Ridgemont was about to explode. The two schools competed in everything from academics to sports. Sports being the most ferocious. Both schools had won titles in soccer, but for the past three years it had been Ridgemont.

The rivalry was pretty new. It all began when Makayla Duvall transferred from Calvary to Ridgemont. Makayla or Mak was the star player of their women's soccer team and had led them to a title her freshman year, but she transferred and Ridgemont has beat out Calvary for the title every year since. As to the reason Mak transferred, all anyone knows is that she had a steamy relationship with Alex Taylor, the captain of the men's soccer team at Calvary. They were pretty hot and heavy her freshman year and after they broke up, she transferred. No one knows why they broke up except Mak and Alex. Some say she was becoming a prude and he forced himself on her. While others speculate that he was the one becoming a prude. This little spat between schools became more intense when Mak began dating Drew Wellons, the captain of the men's soccer team at Ridgemont. Alex and Drew have had a rivalry since grade school. It just threw gasoline on the fire when Mak and Drew started dating. Alex, all of a sudden, decided he wanted Mak back and he would do anything to win her.

It was the night of the big showdown between Calvary and Ridgemont. Both men's teams come to support the ladies. Ridgemont's Lady Spartans were leading the Calvary Tigers three to zero. The game was getting pretty intense when the halftime buzzer sounded and the teams went off to the locker rooms. Mak noticed Alex watching her as she walked to the locker room, but her thoughts were pleasantly interrupted by Drew waiting for her at the locker room with flowers.....

((I need a Drew and an Alex. A girl might be nice too, just to make it a little more interesting. There can be others as well, but PM me for anyone else. Drew and Alex can just jump right in.))

Drew

"Hey Mak, you guys are playing great." I said nodding towards other girls on the team as they headed into the lockerroom. I glanced around to see if anyone was watching. The coast appeared to clear so I leaned in and planted a soft kiss on her lips.

"These are from me." I said holding the boquet out towards her. "And not to ruin the surprise but after you win most of the guys will be waiting at McGinty's with cake and pizza. I know I shouldn't be so cocky but let's face you girls are killing them. I don't want to bring you down but I saw Alex is here. I don't know if you saw him or not but don't worry I'll be on my best behavior tonight, I'm not looking to pick any fights. Although I'm not a goalie so what's it matter if I bust up my knuckles on his face?" She didn't seem amused. "Ok babe well you better get in there and good luck for the second half." I said giving her a hug. The silken jersey felt cool but her skin felt so warm.

I could see Alex was still in the hallway so I made sure to take the long way back to the bleachers.

Drew and Alex were so different and it almost seemed as though they brought out two different people in her.

When she was with Drew, she felt so safe and they had the kind of romance that you see in those teen movies. He always made her feel so special and loved. She was always happy when she was around him and they never argued. She never felt pressured to do anything she didn't want to do. It was perfect, almost too good to be true.

When she was with Alex, she felt so free and they had so much passion. She always had fun and they were always partying every chance they got. They were hot and heavy and Alex was her first serious relationship, but she never felt like it ran deeper than the partying and sex.

Mak thanked Drew for the flowers before he left to go back to the bleachers. She walked towards the locker room, but stopped to watch Alex as he walked away. Everytime she saw him, all the memories came flooding back. She finally went into the locker room and before she knew it, the buzzer went off and they went back on the field.

Mak was at the top of her game and had scored the three goals from the first half. It made her work a lot harder, knowing that she was playing against her old school. She whizzed past the defenders and easily scored another goal a minute into the second half. She ran back down the field to get ready for the next go at it. She glanced around and saw Alex and Drew sitting on opposite sides with their teams. She shook her head to regain her focus.

At the end of the game after crushing the Calvary team, Mak headed off to the locker room to take a quick shower before meeting up with Drew. When she finished her shower, she tied her wet hair up in a messy bun. She sprayed on some body mist and put on her change of clothes. She brought some jeans, a baby blue tank top, and her flip-flops.

She grabbed all of her stuff and went out to meet Drew. He greeted her with a congratulations kiss before being called away to the parking lot by some of his teammates.

Mak said bye to some of her teammates as she waited for Drew. She was surprised when she heard Alex say, "Um...hi, Mak."

She jumped a little before replying, "Oh... hi, Alex." There was an uncomfortable silence before she said, "So, how have you been?"

The memories flooded back to her as she looked at him. He was still gorgeous. She remembered the first time she saw him. It had been her first soccer practice at Calvary and the boys were just finishing up. She was almost mesmorized by him and about a week later, she found out that he felt the same.

She snapped herself out of it and waited for his reply.

Alex needed to talk to her, but she wasn't sure if she could lie to Drew.

She glanced over at Drew who was deep into a conversation with his teammates. "Um..... Alex, I don't know... maybe" She rubbed the side of her neck, uneasily.

She finally said, "Ok...we can talk....10:00.... by the bleachers."

Mak felt a little guilty about sneaking around, but she said, "I'm not going to tell him. I hate when you guys fight. Especially over me."

Suddenly, Mak was pulled away by her friend, Jen. Jen was on her soccer team and was friends with Drew too.

Jen asked sternly, "Mak, what are you doing? If Drew sees you talking to Alex, he's going to go ballistic."

Mak shook her head and said, "I'm not doing anything. We're just talking. Drew should understand that."

Jen shook her head and threw of her hands in withdraw, saying, "Be good, girl." She walked away and Mak returned to Alex.

"Sorry about that. People around here are pretty protective of couples."

Mak watched Alex make his way to his car and soon drove off.

A moment later, Drew returned and they decided to meet at the party. Drew kissed her sweetly adn this made her feel a little guilty. She piled her stuff into her car and drove to the party.

After a few hours of having fun with her friends and Drew, she looked up at the clock and noticed it was 9:45. She was starting to feel a little nervous and Drew noticed.

He kissed her on the cheek and asked, "Are you ok, Mak?"

She shook her head and said, "I'm not feeling so great. I'm gonna head home."

He looked concerned and said, "Do you want me to take you home?"

She shook her head and said, "That's sweet, but I'll be ok." She kissed him sweetly, wrapping her arms around him. "I'll see you later."

She grabbed her purse and went out to her car. She drove back over to the soccer field and walked over to the bleachers.

((Sorry... I'm an impatient poster. I tend to speed things up a little.))

I was puzzled as to why Mak would leave. After all she enjoyed being the star of the team but handled it well with a nice balance of modesty. I wasn't going to argue with her but I knew it must've had something to do with Alex. Maybe he said something to her to upset her. I knew when she got upset she would turn off her cell phone and pretty much isolate herself. I didn't want that to happen so I decided to follow her but with good intentions. I decided to wait 5 minutes before I left but decided to send my friend Lee to trail her. I went back to the party and grabbed a slice of cake. As I was loading the cake into my car my cell phone rang. Lee informed me Mak had turned and drove back to the soccer field. I didn't want to think she was lying to me so I hoped she had just forgotten something. As I drove towards the field I began rehearsing a story to tell her since my house wasn't near the soccer field. I couldn't think of anything so in a panic I told Lee to make sure Mak wasn't around and slash one of her tires.

Before hanging up I said "Wait, that won't work, just pull the valve stem off so it'll be a slow leak. I'll tell her you called me and said you saw her tire going low and you saw her pull into the parking lot. You called me to tell me to come see if Mak needed any help."

"Ok I think she'll buy that. But why don't you just ask her what she's doing?" Lee asked.

"Because if it involves Alex, I'll look like a jealous jerk and be in the doghouse for a weak. If this doesn't involve Alex then I just look like a stalker."

Lee chuckled and hung up. I pulled into the parking lot and noticed the lights were still on at the field. I could hear the rapid sputtering of the sprinklers on the field. I only saw Mak's car in the parking lot. I approached it and noticed none of the tires were going flat. "Lee you idiot" I muttered, kicking her driver's side front tire. I heard gravel crunch behind me and hoped it wasn't a cop.

For a moment, Mak thought she was in the wrong place, but she soon heard a car pull up. She began to walk towards the sound, but soon realized it was Drew. She ducked beside the bleachers and watched Drew as he got out and kick one of her tires.

She was puzzled, but also a little angry that Drew followed her even though she had lied to him. She was about to confront him when she noticed Alex walk up. She had to think of something fast.

"Well, well, look what we have here. Come to get a little late-night soccer practice, have we Drew? Or are you here for something else?"

"Oh, no!", she whispered as she moved from her hiding place. She moved quickly over to where they were and said with her best confused face, "What are you guys doing here?"

My words came in grunts when Mak appeared, "I...brought you cake...Lee said your tire was..." I trailed off. "Hey, maybe the better question is what you are doing here with him!" I said pointing towards Alex. My hands fell to my side and began making fists. My temper was raging, I knew I didn't want to say something I would regret but this situation didn't feel right.

I turned to Mak, "Look if you're cheating on me just come out and say it. I can take it, it's much better than sneaking around behind my back. I know I'm probably jumping to conclusions here but look how this looks to me, Mak. You're alone in a dimly lit parking lot with your ex-boyfriend. Obviously you didn't expect me to come here but I love you and it seemed like something was wrong when you left the party. If you want I'll just leave now and pretend I didn't see anything here."

I turned to Alex "I don't want to fight you. You're not worth it. We'll probably meet each other in the playoffs so we can just settles whatever differences we have there." I said smugly.

I turned back to Mak "I thought one thing that made our relationship so strong was that we didn't keep secrets from one another. I'm a disappointed in this to say the least. But anything you can say to him, I hope you can say in front of me." I swallowed hard. Sure, I didn't give her time to explain but any explanation she could give wasn't going to satisfy me.

Mak just stood there in silence, listening to Drew. She had never seen him this mad before and she didn't want to see it anymore, but then something clicked inside of her.

She turned to Drew with her hands on her hips and said angrily, "First of all, I'm not cheating on you! How dare you say that! You are jumping to conclusions. At the game was the first time that I have seen Alex in a long time." She took a deep breath and thought, Here comes another lie. "I met Alex here because he is helping me with my corner kicks. You know he has the best corner kick in the state. I thought trust was a big part of our relationship. I guess it isn't."

She kicked at the dirt angrily and said, "Don't say you brought me cake. I know you were suspicious and rightly so, but we really have to trust each other."

She grabbed the soccer ball that just happened to be laying nearby and said, "If you love me, you'll go home and trust me to be alone with Alex." She took his hand in her free hand and said with sincerity, "Please."

"Ok obviously I can't win here so I'll go. But I'm not buying the corner kick story. It's 10 at night for crying out loud. I trust you but I don't trust him. I hope you care enough about our relationship to call me later and tell me what's really going on." I said in a huff. I made an extra effort care to slam my car door.

I drove into the alley behind the groundskeeper's shed and parked. The streetlight was dim but bright enough that I could angle my mirror and still get a glimpse of what was going on in the parking lot. Squinting hard I hoped she would remain at arm's lenght from him because if he touched her I was going back. I tried my best to stay calm but paranoia conquered me since I could only see dots when I looked to the parking lot. It was hard to tell which one was which.

Mak felt terrible for lying to Drew, but she needed to hear what Alex had to say. She couldn't deny that there was still some feelings between them even though she had moved on with Drew.

She watched Drew as he drove away, knowing that probably isn't finished spying yet.

"Thanks, Mak. Listen, I think we should go with your story. The last thing you need is Drew thinking you're lying to him. I've got a few soccer balls in the trunk of my car, lets head over to the field. We can talk there."

Mak dropped the ball she was holding and dribbled it between her face. "I did lie to him, Alex. This is no success." She began to jog to the field, dribbling the ball along with her.

She stopped when she reached the field and started juggling the ball with her feet. "So what did you want to talk to me about? Please don't tell me I lied to my boyfriend for nothing."

She kicked the ball at him lightly, causing him to drop the balls he was carrying. She couldn't help, but laugh.

Mak and Alex disappeared out of view. I decided not to follow them, I had done enough damage for the night. Frustrated, I slammed my fist onto the steering wheeled. I winced and try to shake away the pain but it was to no avail. I wanted to scream and kick things but knew that my team still needed me whether Mak did or not.

I felt helpless as I sat there pondering whether or not to go back to the party and ask around to see if Jennifer or any of Mak's teammates knew what might be going on with Mak and Alex. I knew a groundskeeper or someone must still be around for the lights to be on so I decided to just sit and wait until I saw Mak's car leave.

"Mak, I have a question to ask you. It's a simple question, but it's very important to me. I've been noticing things in your behavior, even just today, Mak, and I need to know: do you still have feelings for me?"

After a long moment of uncomfortable silence, Mak started laughing and fell down to the ground. She laid still for a moment before sitting up and saying, "Alex, I have never seen you this serious the whole time I've known you."

She bounced the ball up and down between her spread legs. She noticed that Alex was stilling staring at her. She shook her head and said, "Why do guys think that it's always so simple? It's not a simple question. It's complicated."
