For example, countries could have vaccine development and production facilities ready for a new disease, able to react much faster and with assured supplies. In the Pacific Ocean there is an array of buoys designed to detect a Tsunami but they have limitations. They cannot react fast enough to an event close offshore.

Naples, Italy is threatened by Mount Vesuvius and even more by a simmering but long-dormant supervolcano that underlies much of Naples. The local authorities cannot produce an effective evacuation plan - the number of people involved is just too large.

Auckland, New Zealand also sits on a supervolcano. There are plans to evacuate - if they have time.

A major earthquake in California expected to happen sometime? If they have a warning, some evacuation might be possible but the traffic jams could be enormous.

Thinking about what might happen might reduce casualties.
