Confession good for the soul?

A 40/50-something couple go through soul searching when the husband admits, after some time hiding the truth, to having ongoing, lascivious dreams about his daughter-in-law. Nothing has forced him to confess this - he loves his wife and they have always told each other everything - a 'no-secrets' marriage. He is wracked with guilt about the situation but cannot stop having these dreams.

He implores his wife for forgiveness, pleading that nothing seems to stop the almost nightly phenomenon... and of course he would never want to do anything like this in reality.

Realising his honesty, after initial indignation the wife gradually comes to terms over a number of days with the fact of the situation. More than that, she begins to realise that for a long time she too has been harbouring even darker thoughts, barely admitted even to herself, about their son...

A story start/setting?

Not quite the start, but yes, a good story hook. The start would be a family gathering. A holiday, graduation pool party, something that brings the two couples together. The DIL is gorgeous, well dressed, a little flirty.
And you're describing his distress, his efforts to keep from staring even leaving the room when she walks in.

Then he has a dream that night which should be described in detail, followed by his admission to his wife in the morning.

I did something very similar in my story, Dreams of Him, with a wife and her desire for her future SIL.

The story can be about the fixation only or continue it to the ending the readers will want. Mine is about the fixation only and the readers were not happy with it. She focuses her desire into sex with her husband and never touched the young man. It didn't go over well though there were readers that 'got it'.

Oh yes, good one! I like the idea of the honest husband having the recurrent dream, NOT merely the once which he could shrug off.

I like also the suggested incest potential, viz the wife eventually confessing to hubby her "unnatural" feelings towards her adult son.

Maybe the latter is a fine figure of a man. Body builder? Good looks?

Maybe the younger marriage is in trouble - no children after trying for two/three years?

Maybe, having salved their consciences through the mutual confessing, the idea grows of somehow making the wishes/dreams real - consummating the desire - planning??

Maybe two pregnancies resulting?

LOTS of mileage here.

What if, while the husband is guiltily confessing to his wife of his secret lustful feelings for their daughter-in-law, and begging for forgiveness from her, the wife is replaying in her mind all the times she has had lesbian sex with the same DIL?
Yes, and then, she's thorn to confess or not, and decide to answer honestly with honesty eventually, and now the husband is appalled by the infidelity but can't really be angry, even if crushed, and then they find a way together by discussing their shared lust for the young woman...

Good one. As has been said, a great many possibilities here although I do like the original premise of an older and younger marriage.

Specifically, I like the idea of the older couple, going from fear-laden, anxious mutual confessions, through vague wonderings and then outright lustful joint imaginings - maybe they openly fantasise during their own love-making with each other being with the younger "targets" - and finally actually planning the fulfilment of these dreams. How to take the younger couple down.

A story with a long, long build-up and a final sex-crazed finale, possibly... but then I like the slower burning ones anyway!
