Conferences - website for meet-ups?

Good question. And not about USA only... I spend good three months every year at academic conferences and it would be much easier to have a hook up organised beforehand... :D

This is a great idea, and possibly a real opportunity for a tech-savvy entrepreneur.

I am surprised really there are not Lit meet n greets ... this is such a strong fun supportive community ... when I used to hang out in the yahoo chats/forums several of them had meets I was lucky enough that some were local and had a great time. .. all were very Vegas about it what happened there stayed there

I travel most weeks around the uk, and a night alone in a b&b could be enlivened by a meet, if only for chat with someone who has a more open mind and similar way of thinking to those I normally get to spend time with

Whenever I attend a conference, I secretly wonder who else there is a Lit member. And I have managed to meet other Lit members when traveling for work to places far from home.

Yeah!

We really need this....

They used to happen somewhat regularly.

How about setting up an unwritten standard such as some sort of "sign" and/or place to wait for a connection in a hotel bar. It can't be all that difficult to come up with something. It shouldn't be that a woman who is looking has to get all tarted up and be conspicuous about it. We know that might work. It also gets the attention of the hotel staff.

As a suggestion, many now wear a safety pin to signal that they are "safe" for persons who feel that they are in some sort of danger. Maybe two pins crossed? Or a pin with a oink ribbon?

There is always the Traveling Literoticans thread. Not very efficient, but it's something.

"Travelling Literoticans" thread? :0

That's news to me... I'll have to search for that one.

Thanks!

I admit when I'm at a conference and one of the talks becomes a bit dry, I look around the audience very, very discreetly. I try to imagine who in audience might be secretly thinking similar thoughts. I select the men (and very rarely, a woman) whom I'm most like to share a drink or more... at such times I hope that I'm not blushing, as I'm the shy, quiet type that you'd not suspect would be having these thoughts.

In real life, one of those men did actually approach me, professionally, about collaborating on a small project. We are doing that, strictly professionally. Still, I wonder...

In the Playground

Found the thread in the Playground, with "Traveling" spelled with one L. (As it should be, IMHO.)

Time to go see if anyone's going to Florida tomorrow ...

I would enjoy meeting you at a conference I'm sure. I often wonder if there are lit members where I work.

What a brillant idea... I am often away for work and a conference would be a great time to meet other lit users.

Jason280543, i've met one other person who admitted to reading Lit, but we did not go into detail as what works for me might not work for her.
